Its my dog, max.. hes 14 years old, so done very well to get this far..

Hes getting old and has done nothing but pooh and wee al over the house, i cant keep him in the garden because he crys so much the neighbours complain, i have rung rspca to see if we are doing anything wrong in letting him stay out side but they said no so long as he has shelter, water and some toys, but im worried about what the neighbours say so we bring him in to keep the peace..

Its getting to the stage i think he has incompitence(sp) the back door will be open and he will wee as he walks, his pooh at the moemnt is quite runny and very smelly, its getting beyond a joke, im worried my kids will pick up an infection if i dont get to it to clean it up before they do..
hes going blind and deaf, and he walks with a limp, mark noticed he had a lump on his spine..
i just dont know what to do anymore, its really getting me down, i dont know weather he is ill enough or old enough to be put down and cameron loves him so much it will be heartbreaking if we did, but what would you do.. i need some help.. i cant carry on cleaning mess up all the time,

I would take him to the vets and see what they advice. They may be able to offer some drugs which will help him. If they can't you know you tried to get some help.

Ive rung the vets and they are seeing us tomorrow at 6.20pm.. i hope they sort him out! :?

My dogs walking with a limp and has a massive lump on her rib. The vet said its just a tore ligament :? Its so hard looking after sick pets, hope it goes ok at the vets

Hope he can get some help hun but sometimes the best thing is to put them to sleep. It's no life not being able to see/hear and doing his business wherever he is.

My childhood dog,Lassie went the same way.My dad had her put to sleep in the end and although I was reall upset at the time I know it was the right thing to do.

Hope I've not upset you hun

awww i know how hart renching it must be for you, xxx

I would see what the vets advice is.

I love my dogs to bits & would do anything for them, but if they were in pain or anything thats when i would have the decision to put them down.

Definately take him to the vets, if only for the lump on his spine. That needs to be checked straight away. My dogs had loads of lumps removed (fat lumps) but has also had a mast cell tumour.
Hope he gets better bless him

Awwww hun. Really hope the vet can help.

I know how hard this is, as you know I had to have my 19 year old cat put to sleep last month which broke my heart.

 ive just rung the vets back because theres definatly blood in his pooh  so they want me to take him down now, but could be waiting ages.. but so long as they can help him im not bothered.. means i'll have to public breastfeed as well cos bailey wants a feed raghhhh

Hope you are ok hun

Well we are back, the lady kindly let me feed bailey in a different room cos the waiting room was packed out, megger busy it was..

as for max.. its not good news, vert thinks he may hae cancer, hence why he has lost weight and is thirsty all the time, hes also checking him for being a diabetic.. as for the poohing he has given him medicene to take twice a day and put him on a special diet.. no more normal food he can only have 2 tablespoons full hes gonna starve bless him..

I have to take him bck tuesday for blood tests.. then depends what they say!

Ive just told my mum and she said if he has to have surgery then tell them not to because hes old, he wont withold surgery..

Hey hunni,
ahh man where to start,
its so horrible going to the vets and finding out things like that isnt it.
we had the same problem with out dog who was 15,
he was getting really limp, and kept weeing and poohing everywhere,
my dad couldnt have him put down obviously and then vets said it was a matter of time before he went becasue he had so manythings wrong with him, he had cataracks on his eyes and was going deaf, you could lieterally scream his name he wouldnt flinch.
we kept him at home, and did all we could for him, treated him like a little prince, and it was horrible becasue although he wasnt in much pain we could see him being like he was. :( it just hurt.

animals are hard to look after cos you know one day they are going to go.
i think i would be the same as your mum,and not want the surgery becasue he might not pull through. :(

frank our dog did pass away, but it was in his favourite chair and he went peacefully.
at the end of the day, we wouldnt have done anything any different becasue he was a part of the family.

then in saying that you have young children to think about.
i dunno really what ive been trying to say, but Dogs realise when they are loved and that, and i just say give him as much love as you can and try and stick it out. as long as possible.
i really do hope that the bloods are alright and that he hasnt got cancer.
and hopefully will gradually get lots better

:( Sorry to hear that. As for the surgery, my old family dog had a cancerous lump removed from her leg when she was 14/15 and she was absolutely fine. She had to be put to sleep when she was 17 cos she had a stroke. It's easy for people to say to put him down cos it's best for him, but you know your dog and if you don't think it's his time just try and make the rest of his life as pain free and comfortable as you can. Sending you all lots of
