Maternity Leave

I am so confused over this maternity leave malarky !!

My baby is due on the 9th of April - so i have decided to finish work on the 13th of April. I work Monday - Friday, 8am - 5.30pm and i am on my feet all day.

Some people are saying it's 6months you get, some say 9?

I am definatly going to go back to my work, i have too - can't afford not to what with Mortgage.

My Manager retires in September and i'm feeling a wee bit pressured that i MUST be back by then or else they won't have anyone qualified to work...

6 months OML, a further 6 months AML with 33 weeks (approx. 9 months) SMP (or topped up by your work if they offer better) as long as you meet all the stipulations. You can go back anytime you want though as long as it is not within the first 2 weeks after childbirth (4 weeks if you work in a factory).

In April 2007 the rules were changed, that is why you can find conflicting information - some of it is out of date. Before that time it was 6 months paid, now it is 9 months paid (39 weeks). You can also take an additional 3 months unpaid.

I could be wrong but I don't think you are allowed to start your maternity leave after your due date.
