Me again

I used to sterilise all of my bottles, and add cooled boiled water, then just add the powder as and when we needed it.

Now we are using Comfort milk, it has to be made up with hot water, so I have to make each bottle fresh now. Its a bit more hassle, but fine at the moment.

The problem comes when we need to go out. I have bought a small thermos, so I always have hot water with me. BUT... the steriliser says the bottle is no longer sterile as soon as I open it. So if I take the empty bottle with me, is it no longer sterile? How does this differ from me adding cooled boiled water to it, and taking it out like that? Sooo confusing.

Last question, how do you get those bloomin' powder dispensers bone dry after sterilising?? Last time I used a bit of kitchen towel as I was in a hurry :shhh: but again, I am guessing that makes them no longer sterile!

Thanks.

only help i can offer is.. you dont need to sterlise the dispense as it doesnt come in contact with milk only powder. like the scoop u use, u dont sterilise that or the container the milk comes from, its only when mixed with water it need to be sterlised.

ive never be one to be that bothered with sterlising, ive always thought being to clean isnt good for babies, so i would just sterlise the bottle, put the lid on it and not open the bottle again until you need it, i know avent say there bottles are fine for 24 hours after sterilizing.

sorry if i havent helped much

i dont sterilise the powder dispensers as the powder isn't sterile anyway.

same here
but i do wash them, and i had the same prob with powder sticking to it if it was a lil bit wet.
so to dry them i scrunch some kitchen towel up and put it inside, and lay it on some kitchen paper to dry for a couple of hours... This absorbs excess water :)

i didnt have a prob making up the odd comfort feed cold just shake it reeally hard !

also at home , i micorwave the water for 15secs that way it is warm to add the powder too but i dnt have to make up fresh feeds every time .

I use comfort milk and I still do my bottles in the same way... I sterilse the bottles and boil the kettle...then I allow it to cool and put 5oz of cooled boiled water in each bottle...then store them in the cupboard and when I need one I just top it up to 7oz with fresh boiling water.

It makes the milk the perfect temp for Evie and it's quicker. You just need to experiment to get it to the right temp for your baby. (I use to do 4.5oz of cooled water then top up to 6oz with boiling)

As for the powder dispensers I wash mine then rinse them and put them on kitchen towel upside down to drain then I just dry them with kitchen towel after an hour or so.

When we're going out I usually make up a 8oz bottle (just in case she drains 7oz!) with more boiling water than normal and put it in a thermal bottle bag...it usually stays perfectly warm and the little bit of temperature it loses is normally fine because I made it hotter than normal ...then I just tip in the powder as needed

Thanks all.

I think I got confused about sterilising the powder dispensers as they are the tommee tippe ones that are designed to sit in the bottles with the water (which obv i'm not doing :wall: )

Will try your method thanks pilkers. We are only using 4oz at the moment, and she struggles to drink all that!

She's been so unsettled today  just hope this milk is working, she's been on it almost a week now... Took her an hour to struggle a poo out earlier, crying all the while.

try 3oz cooled water with 1oz boiling to start with as you can always cool it down under the tap if it's too hot whereas you can't heat it back up again if it's too cold! Also if she is suffering with colic/wind don't give her bottles that are too warm...the warmer the milk the more wind it creates x

Evie had a couple of dodgy weeks when we changed her milk...stick with it though...it was the best thing we ever did for Evie

Thanks, thats really helpful

Dunno what we'd do without you lot on here! :rotfl:
