Hey huni!
Please don't feel disheartened yet.....speak to all the specialists that u need to before going down the route of IVF, altho have it at the back of your mind......I don't agree with people who say "u will probably need IVF" when to be honest, no1 has all the facts yet.
I'm not going to lie, that is a low count, but my OH has a low count too, we were going to the infertility clinic, wasn't allowed IVF funded due to me having a son from previous relationship, was allowed clomid as I wasn't ovulating due to an operation in 2007 and lost an ovary, but 16 months later, I left my job, OH took zinc everyday, I relaxed (cos I had my clomid ready to start when my period arrived) and I got my BFP.

IT CAN HAPPEN!

My infertility doc was a bitch, end of. Hated her, but she was reassuring that it ONLY TAKES ONE to do the job.

Change OH's diet, get him on the zinc, wear baggy trousers etc......

If this doesn't work (while attending fertility etc) and if the fertility come back saying no hope, then yes look into IVF. Don't give up huni, miracles CAN happen, I'm proof of that.

A lovely lady once told me when I 1st arrived on this site that the cutesy babies take the longest to make.....I will never forget that.

Go and give that OH of yours a hug, trust me, he might be "ok" about everything, but deep down, he needs a hug and to be told all is going to be ok.

Hi hun! My dh has the same problem, we dont have the numbers but we know its low. He has to hand in a new sample after the summer, so now he's taking a lot of vitamins, minerals and antioxidants. It can't hurt, we figured.

My OH has a low count, around 10 mil and also was told he had abnormal sperm. We found out a couple of months ago. OH stopped smoking, started taking Zinc everyday and we got our BFP. (I've since had a miscarriage, but that's not the point here!) It does only take one little swimmer to get there at the right time. Never give up!!

I spoke to my Doc's receptionist again today as the results were given over the phone, by her. All she said was that my Doc wasn't too concerned but because they were on the low side, we may as well be referred to Fertility whilst waiting for my HyCoSy scan & test. It wouldn't do any harm....
She also said that she wasn't qualified to read the results but I aksed her what the count was anyway and she said she thought it was 1.5million (this was on Mon)..... I am not getting my hopes up too much but you never know. We have an apt on 6th July for GP to read results properly. Fingers X for us ladies!!!!

Yeah, it's gonna kill us waiting. I am soooo impatient that it is shocking.

We tried something different this month tho and instead of trying every day or other day from cd10 - cd16, I used the ovulation testing kit and tried on just cd14. Don't know whether it is true that the longer you leave it, the more the sperm builds up but worth a shot.
I am at cd18 now so fingersx no period comes on cd27 - the next 9 days are gonna drive me bonkers....

it does help but you shouldntgo longer the about 3 days as the sperm can go funny!!!

like i said earlier, people were too quick to tell u that "u will need IVF" when you havent even covered all the tests yet......
yes this might b the case, but until the docs/hosp do all the tests needed, IVF isnt an option yet.
some people are too quick to judge and pull you down.

Do all the tests the doc ask and take it from there. Might be a long process, but its worth it, trust me!
I still find it hard to believe that we got our BFP after 16 months with only 1 ovary and a low count.

Have not logged in here for a few years now and have been reading this particular part of the site with interest as we have been accepted for funding in our area for IVF with ICSI. I have a child from a previous relationship so feel very lucky to have been given this funding as I didn't realise some area's won't fund if there is a child in the relationship already. My husbands sperm count is very low, has low mobility and morph-something I can't remember the name of, so in the sperm stakes we have it stacked against us, but we only need one determined little bugger!

We've been trying for three years and just got our date (cycle depending) on Friday for 17th October to start our first cycle of treatment. I'm sure I will be popping up on here more frequently over the next few months but just wnated to say to those going through the IVF process or who maybe aren't even there yet, keep positive, there's always hope, and if at first you don't succeed - try, try again x

I completely agree with Vickyxx. If it wasn't for this site, I really believe that I would have lost the plot by now!!!
OH and I have actually decided to stop trying for a while. The stress was getting to us and we were arguing all the time. We decided to stop around 2 weeks ago and not a word of a lie, we are getting on like a house on fire again!!!! The relief is awesome!
So, going to chill out untill we get fertility apt through and enjoy each other!!

This is what happened to me emma26, we decided to stop trying but not prevent it if that makes sence? And i was like u, so relieved and we got on so much better, binned the OPK's, stopped charting etc and then we got our BFP. Stress is not good for sperm count, so de-stress, relax, enjoy eachother again and im sure it will happen for u xx

My OH has a sperm count of 1 million per m/l with everything else normal. We got told they will not do our IVF treatment because both our BMI's are slightly high and they do not want to risk it.

One of the ladies off here has told me that her OH had a similar problem and he made some lifestyle changes and his sperm count went back up. So fingers crossed for you both, if you ever want to chat just pm me

OH and I just found out that he has a sperm count of 1.5million.

My docs secretary said that it was 'on the low side' but I Googled it and it seems REALLY low!!!
They are refering us to the fertility clinic and because i have issues too (I have regular periods but don't ovulate every month... We think it's stress), I have to have a HyCoSy test.

I don't know much about any of this - Please help!!

My BMI is defo high but my OH is fine. Really trying to loose weight now, in prep for the possibility of having to have IVF in the future. We not even had fertility apt yet!!
