Hi guys,

My husband and I have been TTC for 19months months now with nothing. I went to the Drs a few weeks back and had FSH/ LH and progesterone bloods (day 2 and day 21). Day 2 bloods came back normal but my progesterone level was low. Dr wants me to have repeat bloods done.

I have limited knowledge on what this means but no idea what it means in terms of TTC. Has anyone else had this and knows what to expect or what to do to increase my levels?

Any info would be great, thanks in advance :)

I have low.progesterone and it means i dont ovulate. However my progesterone levels were 0 and 1 on second bloods.due to stupidly.long cycles mine have never been done on the right day.make sure they are on right day and get your doc to tell you your levels. Good luck xxx

Thanks. My cycles are very regular at 25 days. And I thought I had shown signs of ovulation as well as having positive opks. I don't understand lol. What has been done about your low progesterone? X

opks ect dont confirm ovulation im afraid only way to know for sure is by bloods or temping

I know that the opks are not 100% bit I halve shown other symptoms of ovulation. I suppose I am in shock as thought I was ok as regular cycles and sins of ovulation. I am only 26 as well so did not expect problems this young :(

If your cycles are short at 25 days and u went for bloods cycle day 21 it might have been to late. I thought u should go 7 days before af shows. So maybe cycle day 18 might be better for you. I might be wrong though. I have a longer cycle and went at cycle day 23 for mine and they were within the normal range but very low.

Thread jumping.

I too was ttc for 2 1/2 years until finally falling pregnant. All tests were clear and GP finally diagnosed an underactive thyroid for me, hence my irregular periods and 1 in 4 months no ovulation. It took a while to diagnose this condition as I seem to have been borderline for sometime - actually tests were clear for thyroid function in July 2012 (a year after ttc) and by July 2013 they had detected an underactivate thyroid by repeating tests. I started medication straight away and I finally fell pregnant this March. I'm convinced this was down to the underactive thryoid as this is what controls all of your hormone levels, plus your bodies chemical balance rate. The progesterone is needed after ovulation to maintain a pregnancy - it should surge at this point and I suspect this is where my body wasn't able to implant an embryo.

I argued with some specialists that my infertility was down to the thyroid and they told me it wasn't and I kept researching into this myself as I just had a gut feeling that it was, and I'm convinced that I was right all along.

Ladies - Please keep at your GP's to do regular bloods, day 21 to ensure ovulation and also ask for a thyroid function test. When you get your results do some of your own research as my comfortable level is well below 'the normal lab results' so please ask for all readings and keep a diary yourself. I used one of the ovulation tracker apps which were good.

I often wonder how many others may have a thyroid disorder which is resulting in infertility and want to share my experience to help possibly others who may have this condition. You'd be surprised how common it is!

Good luck all x

My progesterone is borderline, I do ovulate but the levels probably aren't high enough to sustain a pregnancy. When I had IUI and IVF they gave me progesterone pessaries which stopped AF coming until we knew I definitely wasn't pregnant. I wondered if low levels also means the eggs are immature or poor quality but we got 17 eggs collected and 9 of them fertilised which was good! The embryos didn't make it, but maybe next time they will.
What was your progesterone level?

I think they look for over 30/32 to indicate ovulation. Some months mine was 2 so no ovulation. Towards the end mine were anything between 40 odd and 70 odd. I think the FSH taken at day 3 of cycle indicates egg quality and reserve... google it and get a print out of your results from GP. I managed to research quite a bit myself on all these results. Good luck x
