Hi Girls,

Just wanted a rant about this lovely MW I saw on Thursday ahh!!! She's not the usual MW I see and she didn't introduce herself or say why she was there instead of the usual woman. She didn't ask me questions or ask how things were going. She just took my bloods (very roughly as well!!), she listened to baby for literally 2 seconds (I didnt even hear the HB!!), she literally prodded my tummy twice and said she 'couldn't tell where baby was' - WTF?!?!?! AND to top it off I read my notes when I came out, she put my blood pressure as 125/70 - she didnt even take my BP, she put baby as lying breech - she said she could tell where she was?!?!!? Luckily I've got a doppler at home so was able to put my mind at rest!

Worst part is my friend (she is exactly one week behind me) went in after me and told MW straight away she forgot her urine sample and MW said it doesn't matter, we'll check it in two weeks!!! She mentioned she had swelling in her hands and feet and MW (without even looking or asking the extent of the swelling) just said 'yep normal for about this time' AND when she looked at her notes the stupid MW put the urine was all clear - she didnt even take a sample!!! This friend of mine had been plagued with UTI's throughout her pregnancy as well bless her! So f**ked off with the way some of these so called professionals care so little about something so important and scary! If I ever get pregnant again I'm going private!!

Sorry for rant :(

xx

That is not acceptable, I think you should complain. Pretty much she wrote BS on your notes

thats awful :(

what a terrible mw! They shouldn't just presume things, those checks need to be done for a reason otherwise they wouldn't be instigated in our notes!

If i were you i'd ring to complain, tell them that she didnt even carry out the checks she was supposed to but wrote in your notes that she did and ask to see another midwife to be checked properly as your now worried!

Some of the things i read about mws on here really shock me!

hope your okay

xxx

Nope, defo not acceptable. She cant go about making things up to put on the notes.

At my last appointment, think I was 28 weeks, I was told she couldn't feel where baby was, she said it was either back to back or breech, she wrote breech on my notes. I always get the feeling my MW is wanting ppl in and out as quick as possible. With my last pregnancy it was the exact same, lucky to be in there for 4 mins.

I'd defo complain to the senior MW about the notes.

:)

thats really serious you need to complain its lies and she cant be allowed to get away with it AND shes giving other MWs a bad name as well as putting mothers and babies lives at risk, disgusting!

Yeah I'm gonna write a complaint definitely. It felt like she wanted it to be over as quick as possible. OH was there and he wasnt impressed either. And her attitude stank, after she took my bloods she was filling out all the paperwork, took her time well enough and I was looking at OH as if to say like 'why isnt she asking me anything' ie how was I feeling etc. I couldve asked, fair enough, but since she didnt even introduce herself or say why she was there I didnt feel comfortable asking a total stranger questions. She must've caught me looking at OH because she said "wont be a second, this needs to be filled out first" and when she tested my urine she just shoved the sample at my OH and said this needs to be put in the toilet outside, I can't dispose of it in here!! Whole appointment was a bloody nightmare, my usual MW can be a bit ditzy sometimes but she actually answers all questions and always asks how I'm feeling and telling me what's happening with the babys development etc. xx

Also, I don't think she measured my bump properly either... my usual MW asks me to undo my trousers and measures from the pubic bone to top of uterus... this freaking disaster didnt ask me to undo my jeans, it felt like she measured from just under my belly button :S idiot

You def need to complain. It's this type of behaviour that leads to problems getting missed. Do you know I hate how complacent some midwives and other Obs staff can be. They fibbed me off three times over concerns I had and we lost our son two and a half weeks later :( the awful this is the specialist said if it was caught the week earlier he may have survived. I wish I had pushed but I trusted these people to look after me and our baby - I tell you some just don't care! I was let down by midwives, my GP, a consultant and another senior doctor. How can his happen in this day and age, bloody laziness if you ask me! Sorry for that rant, it just riles me!!!

It's horrible when you have a horrible midwife! It's not on really, these people want to be midwives, train to be them, and then don't do their job properly!

It's the worst when you feel like they're trying to get you in and out quickly. My old midwife was like that. But the new one I have now I've moved house is lovely! So chatty, and really efficient at the same time, I really feel like she's paying attention. Even though I'm normally about 45 minutes late being called in because she's been chatting to the people before me, I don't mind because she talks through everything with me.

Make sure you definitely complain!

xx

Laura_c how awful Im so sorry youve had to go through that and that was exactly my point too, these people must not go ignored and your case is exactly why I dont stand for any rubbish when our health is concerned. Ive had too many friends being ignored or treated badly due to malpractice and the consequences have been unforgiveable xxx

Laura C I'm so sorry to hear how badly you were neglected by these 'professionals' - its made me want to complain even more now!!!! I'm writing it up today and hopefully I won't have to see her again!!! I wish my GP was a midwife to be honest, she is absolutely brilliant :( I hope this last ten weeks goes quickly for me. Hope everyones doing ok xxxx
