yeah Ive heard vitamin e oil too cos if you tear the vitamin e will help with healing quickly (?)

this isnt a cream, its like a balloon thing that you stick in your fluffet and inflate and hold in there and then push out to get you used to what crowning will feel like.... sounds like of wierd but is actually quite logical, was just gonna buy one to try out when I realised theyre over £90 when you include P&P!!

Wondered if anyone has heard of them before. Some on the research about them is really positive. Reckons it reduces the risk of tearing in a first birth from 30% to 10%.

I did pregnancy yoga in my 3rd trimester and my teacher really promoted this. She advised you can do it yourself just using your thumbs, it really helps prepare for labour and helps prevent tearing :)

Hmm seems like a weird thing to me for £90 cant u just use a normal balloon haha!!! I tore with my daughter because she was big and i hadnt used anythin down there! but this time im preparing! Lol i was looking at getting a thing like this that helps with pelvic floors but again the price is like £90 and id rather buy my kids stuff with £90 rather then contraptions like this lol x

Also i thought alot of people didnt tear with there first anyway?! x

oh good to hear a good review! Maybe its worth the money? Ive read up on perineal massage but Im a bit worried I wont be able to reach properly with my bump! I tried talking OH into it but he looked petrified!!!

waste of money. There is no evidence to suggest perineal massage is beneficial. Youre better off supporting your perinium with warm compresses during the second stage, either yourself or OH or you MW can do it for you. :)

I dont think i could justify that kind of money for that. xxx

Thats a lot of money - if I do it I think I will use my thumbs - otherwise perhaps a jumbo love rocket might be beneficial - not saying my husband has a small willy btw..if anything silicone is going up my flute then it would have to have veins.

I think if you can be arsed or your OH might quite like it then it's worth a go.

you'd feel like a bit of a wolly, you have to leave it in for 10 minutes. They suggest relaxing by reading a book or listening to music. Can you imagine if someone walked in on you....

I just cant spend £90 on something unless its proven to be of real benefit.... Im just really scared of tearing and I am sooooo not okay with the who episiotomy thing!

That'll be a rampant rabbit then, defo has veins, and knobbly bits

episiotomys dont get done like they used to. They dont stitch like they used to either. I may have said this before but someone once likened an episiotomy to throwing someone down the stairs to stop them falling...I thought that was a good analogy.

If you put in your birth plan you dont want one they should respect that. First time mums might wince at the thought but it's better to tear than be cut. It heals better and i often much less of a wound.

I think Id rather take the gamble and runthe risk of tearing than guarantee a cut. Might be pretty hard to keep calm an relaxed while someone is hacking at your fluffet with a pair of scissors!

I tore really badly. I delivered when my MW was out of the room, I ended up with a 3rd degree tear that took nearly 2 hrs to stitch in theatre. I had nerve damage and had to have physio and when I left hospital I had no pelvic floor function at all. If the MW had been there I may have been cut (as Evie was a big baby) and I think I'd rather have been cut than what I went through. I've also got the prospect of a section if I have another baby as they're not sure if I can deliver naturally again as the damage was so bad

btw is there anything you can do about tearing or is it just one of those things thats gonna happen if its gonna happen? Does water help? cos i kind of imagine it would soften everything but might just be makng that up!

I think my damage was due to having a very quick uncontrolled birth with no MW to help, not because Evie was big. I know lots of friends that have had babies just as big without tearing or needing any intervention. I just feel that if I had had the choice of being cut or a 3rd degree tear I know what I would choose now :)
