Hi girls

Just looking for advice. Thank you in advance :)

Have been ttc since Jan. For several years my periods have lasted anywhere from 10 days to 2 weeks, but usually closer to 2weeks. This first started happening when I came off the pill. The first week of this is usually really light (only enough to need a panti liner) followed by about 5 days/ a week of heavier bleeding.

I brought this to the attention of a doctor while I was at my cervical check 3 months ago. I also told her that we had been trying to conceive for a while. She suggested that my progesterone was low and prescribed me 3 months of duphaston, to be taken for 21 days from the first day of bleeding followed by a 7 day break. I wasn't asked to go for bloods. She told me that this wouldn't stop me getting pregnant and hopefully shorten my periods.

I am now almost 2 months in to taking the progesterone. I spotted/bled for pretty much the entire first month, except for a few days. This month I have had 17 days of nothing, and started spotting again, just before I was due to take the 7 day break. This is the same time when I would have been due to start bleeding lightly. it seems as though the progesterone has made no difference to my cycle so far. Anyone any experience with taking progesterone or ttc with long periods?

Also worth noting. I used advanced clear blue ovulation tests this month. I got 7 days of flashing smileys. The next day I began bleeding, as mentioned above. It would seem that I am ovulating really late?! Or not at all...

Help, any advice greatly appreciated. I am considering going back to the doctor but afraid that I should be giving the tablets some more time.

It's weird she prescribed this with no blood tests. Also I thought a hospital fertility or gyneacology dept would deal with it. You could ask to be referred to a gyno dept in a hospital...it feels a bit unscientific to be making guesses about your hormone levels and then medicating...I'm not a doctor though. I think you'd be much better off with specialists. You need 21 day cycles to conceive from what I've heard...a fertility/gyno specialist would know how to handle this properly.

I agree Sunflower, I also thought it was weird to not take bloods, but she seemed to think it was a clear progesterone deficiency. I really didnt like this doctor (she was a doctor at the well woman clinic) much and am currently looking for a new GP. I am going to ask for a referral to a gynecologist when I go, for sure.

Thanks alot for you response, I appreciate the advice x

Really glad to hear that. You don't want your hormones mucked about for the sake of it as it could take a while to rebalance them. Hope you get a good specialist. x
