I am a first time mummy and Macy is now a wonderful 3 months and it has gone so quick.

But there are small things I didn't know that would of helped so much

So here are a few bits.

* a new born sleeps all the time! They wake, change bum, feed a small oz and then sleep. I found this was the best time to meet people as you knew they would sleep. Now she is a bit bigger she only wants mummy and daddy when crying. So some people only get a 2 minute hold. (she is teething as well so it's worse)

* A swinging chair has saved me! If I wanted to make a sandwich or go to the loo - yes this is a hard thing, pop the chair on and music and you are fine. Mine was from gum tree and it's my favourite thing for her. She also likes being in it. So don't spend loads on one but it's a great thing to have

*. Don't be scared to put them in there own room. Macy wasn't sleeping well in our room, so she went in to her own room at around 6/7 weeks. And now sleeps through the night. She is happy. It was a hard decision and one we talked about for hours.

*. Go with your guts. Even if someone is telling you something and they had a baby 10 years ago it's all changed in those years. Advice has changed in 5 years. The amount of older family members that have said don't do that do this. I just say OK and ignore them.

* Remember to eat!

Good luck ladies. I would do labour and having a new born again in an instant. I love having her and every day you will smile at something they do. But I miss my bump so much! X

And get some tea tree oil in, a few drops mixed with a little milk and put in the bath does absolute wonders for if you have stitches :) xx

Oh... Thanks :) this is a great thread! Getting me very excited x

I'd definitely say just go with your own instincts and don't be scared!!

Your baby will love you unconditionally and won't mind if it takes you a few attempts to get things right- you're both just learning together!!

If people offer you advice, nod smile go away and do what you think is right x

Or lavender oil but make sure you defo add the milk lol xxx

How considerate! Great thread!

My mum told me about the old school advice, as when I was a baby people kept telling her to make sure I was wrapped up and that I wasn't warm enough. Well they made her feel so paranoid and kept on at her that she took their advice and I ended up with very mild heat stroke! I was fine, but it only made her feel worse!! x

I forgot looking back on these. White noise app is amazing its like a Hoover, shower, tv noise that diverts them from crying and settles them. She is 4 months and we still use it now.
