people say you shouldn't lift things but how heavy is too heavy. I work in a hospital and not too keen to tell people yet but also don't want to lift/carry something that I shouldn't.
Just wondering, also is there anything else you should avoid in the hospital, for those that work in one?
Thanks

Hi hun,

I would say that anything that you would try and carry when not pregnant that you thought was maybe a bit heavy for you but you will give it a go anyway - dont bother!!

I carried bags of shopping, my dog (10kg) moved house and did all packing and carried suitcases etc right up until 8 months when I got SPD.

I would say just be sensible and if you think its gonna be a bit of a strain dont pick it up.

Its not particularly because you will harm baby, its cos your centre of gravity has changed so your muscles can strain as your using them in a different way to normal as your body is changing day to day and your muscles are becoming more pliable due to the hormones making them more stretchy and loose for childbirth so therefore a bit weaker.

If you dont normally lift and carry heavy objects - dont start now, but if you usually do a lot of exercise and weights etc, you can still lift stuff but just be sensible and know your limitations.

I totally agree with Jen......

We are currently in the process of moving house, and Im packing moving items etc, but then as we have been doing some serious renovation work for the last 10 months so Im quite used to lifting etc. I also life my dogs (both around 15kg - although not at the same time :D ).

However, I now draw the line at helping DH move cast iron woodburners/radiators etc :D

Just be careful and I would say if you have any worries at all tell your immediate boss your news, so they understand!

Ditto what Jen&James has said really.

I was lugging straw bales, 20kg sacks of feed, moved house, moved furniture and all sorts when PG.

Anything that would really strain you to lift, don't lift it. TBH you should tell someone at work if you are going to do any lifting as they have a responsibility to make sure you have a safe working environment.

I'd talk to your boss, explain you want to keep it quiet for now about being PG but that you cannot lift certain heavy objects etc. I'm sure they can find a way round explaining that away for a few weeks till you are ready to tell.

thanks for the advice
I'll see how I go next week, as I only started the job a couple of days ago, hence the reluctance to tell the boss just yet. Was going to wait a couple more weeks and then do the 'oh I didn't realise I was pg!'

BTW just got back in from sex and the city and it was fab, loved it.
