Not sure where to post this but looking for some experience! Ever since my 2nd baby was born I’ve known I’m not done, especially lately all I think about is adding to our family! My partner says he is done but he is one of 3 and enjoyed having a bigger family so I could see him coming round to one more. Apart from the obviously more room/ more money side of things how did you find having a 3rd child? Did they just fall in to your routine or did you find they changed everything? I know my 2 children would love another sibling as they love each other’s company so much but I just worry that it’d change things with another? Basically I just don’t feel complete yet but I don’t want to be selfish thinking about my own needs! Thank you xx

I am 33w with an unplanned third and I won't lie. I'm nervous.

On a practical level you need to think about things like space (bedrooms and car) and how it's going to impact on your quality of life. Holidays for 5 are a lot more expensive for example.

You also need to think about your emotional capabilities. I am terrified my middle child is going to feel completely pushed out - she is such a mummies girl.

That said me and my OH both come from big families and neither of us would change our upbringings and every reservation we had about number 3 had a workaround.

Having our third has been absolute magic. So much so that we are now planning a fourth, ha! Some significant things are essential, mainly a bigger car. But overall the transition from 2-3 has been so natural and joyful and I can not imagine life without our magic baby Summer.

I do think that so much depends on baby’s temperament. Our second was a CHALLENGING baby. Colic, constant spitting up, HATED the car and the carrier... oh gosh he was (and is!) just exhausting. He’s also exuberant and joyful and happy and hilarious and so much easier now at 3. But after having an utterly brutal transition from 1-2, I was bracing myself for another grueling transition and to my delight it has been just... easy and wonderful. But Summer is also the worlds easiest baby and I naturally am very high-energy and do well on little sleep, so I have that going for me thank goodness.

Best of luck with whatever you decide. I vote go for 3!

Thanks for your replies! Its such a hard decision, I guess I have time on my side as my 2nd is still only 1 so if I didn’t want a massive gap I have a bit of thinking time. If money/space was unlimited I would have about 20 children haha I just want to get it right for them and for us not to regret not adding to our family xx

I’ll let you know what it’s like on a few weeks. I have an 8 yo and 3 yo and took me a while to decide to go for a 3rd. Still. It convinced but here we are and know we will be fine! Both kids excited but suspect number 2 will feel it as he’s a total mummies boy.

Aww good luck! Yes my 2nd is a mummies boy too, I’m sure he will welcome his new sibling and not be too jealous! Xx

We're due baby number three too. We have two boys who are 7 1/2 and nearly 3. This baby is a girl so our eldest is excited. Our second is also a complete mummy's boy but has had muddle child written all over him since he was born!

Good luck! Yes I say to my partner my youngest has all the qualities of middle child haha xx

I am stlll trying to convince my other half that a third is a great idea. I am 1 of 4 as is he, so I find it strange he wants to stick with 2!!!
I am very thankful for the two girls we have, they are amazing but I feel I'm not done.
I'm not getting younger and feel the time s ticking for me now.

It’s a strange feeling isn’t it, like you say It is a blessing to have two happy healthy children but that feeling of not feeling complete lingers. I just can’t get it out of my head, I just have this overwhelming need for another child and can’t see it ever just going away. Suppose I will just have to see what the future brings xx
