I've (seriously) given up giving up things for lent!
I always say I'll give this that and the other up then fail and spend the rest of lent feeling like an awful person, so this year I've decided not to bother lol
I've given up alcohol! And I've stuck to it! I usually attempt giving up chocolate etc and never manage it, but thought I'd give up something a bit more meaningful this year!
O gave up bread and alcohol until the alcohol went tits up the first night!' I'm not at aa or anything like that! Lol buy DH invited friends round for a drink?! Lol and then I went to me mates the next day and she had already "oh I made some sandwiches specially for when you arrived"
I just explain that Ive given those things up for lent and the person usually understands. On Friday a friend of mine came round after her grandad's funeral and she'd said to me that she was going to bring chocolate but when I explained about lent she completely understood and brought doritoes instead. I can not wait for Easter! I'm ridiculously excited! My first Easter as a Christian! :-D
Do you guys know about the loophole with lent?! Because sundays are a day for rejoicing/praising god and all that, they decided they don't count! So they took all the Sunday's out and stuck them at the start of lent! My uncle told me years ago and I thought it was shite, but it was on songs of praise the other week so it HAS to be true I don't regulary watch songs of praise btw, it was just on!
