James is nearly 8 weeks now and ive only just bought a pump to do some expressed bottles if i need to leave him with oh sometimes. I tryed this morning to bottlefeed him but he wouldnt suck on it and just gave me a weird look lol Have i left it too late to introduce a bottle? Has anyone else left it this long or anyone have any suggestions on how to get him to take it or certain bottles that would help? He sucks on a dummy but only the yellow soft teat ones and only sometimes takes it.

I'd keep persevering Hun, C took hers straight away, but I have a friend whose lo took several attempts to drink from bottle, but they got there eventually! Xx

It will take him some time to get used to it, it will be strange at first for him as he knows that's not where he gets his milk but def stick with it! X

Are you giving it warm? My LO would not take a bottle at first and then I tried warming it up and she took it fine. Also if you can get the teat in the mouth squirt some of the milk and it might encourage them to suck.

Yes ive been expressing and trying to feed him straight after. He managed to suck a few sips today so weve made progress think its going to be a few more attempts for him to take a whole feed though. What bottles do you use, i only have a tommee tippee closer to nature that came with pump dont think he likes the teat though x

I didn't leave it as late as 8 weeks because I've heard this can happen so many times but
Maybe try getting your oh to give baby the bottle if they can smell milk on you chances are they would rather have you

I tried my LO with a bottle around 5 weeks and she took it fine. When I tried again at 3 months she wasn't having any of it! I just persevered as I had a day and evening out planned that I really didn't want to miss so I needed her to take a bottle whilst I was gone. I tried her with an oz of ebm a couple of times a day. To start with she would get upset then she started to play with the teat then take a few sucks and eventually she learnt to drink it. Took about a week. I used the tommee tippee closer to nature bottles too. I read that it's best to stick to one type of bottle and teat rather than keep trying different ones otherwise they get even more confused. I've only tried Seren with a bottle once since and she still remembers what to do but she didn't take much, I think when I'm there she'd rather take it from me but if I had to leave her with OH I think she'd take more from him. So yeah I'd say just persevere and he will get there. And get OH to try so LO is not tempted by your boobs! Xxx

I also use the tommee tippee bottles. Even if you give the bottle staight after expressing, you should try to warm it up anyway because it cools down quite rapidly once it's out your boob!

Thanks i will keep trying i got my Oh to try feed him yesterday and he took a bit then but he had so much wind after poor thing ended up bringing his next feed up x

What size teat are you using? We had to move SR up to a size 2 at about 7 weeks as he had to work too hard and brought his feed back up

What bottles are you trying.

I've combination fed 4 babies and always used tommy tippee close to nature x

its the closer to nature bottles im using as it came with pump so im guessing its first size teat, i will try the next size see if it helps thanks x
