I went to answer no and felt quite repulsed by it but then thort who the hell am I to get annoyed when I eat meat.

How many of you voted no but also eat meat?
How many have thort like this?

I thought along those lines but more in the sense that wear a real leather jacket or a own leather sofa... ;)

 Hazel

As I said in the fur thread I do feel a bit hypocritical that I wouldnt wear fur, or leather for that matter, but I do eat meat. However I wouldnt want an animal to be killed for the sake of fashion or for any cosmetic reason. Im not going to argue that dont need to kill animals for clothes as we have so many other materials to wear because I know full well that the answer to that would be we dont need to kill animals for food as there are plenty of other things to eat, which is totally true.

Hmm its a hard one- this is THE week for big debates isn't it. Ok this might sound really weird but this is my view and as i said earlier you should be proud of your beliefs and be able to stand up and debate them.

I believe i would never see an animal and think hmm what a gorgeous fur i must go and skin that animal so i can drape its fur over me. The thought of animals being killed just to skin them is not a nice one. And i would not personally be prepared to skin an animal for its fur....so i wouldn't wear fur, But i don't feel strongly enough to say protest against fur.. i wouldnt deliberately buy a real leather coat either..however i bet most of the shoes i own have at least a bit of leather on them...as i do not have the time energy or money to go looking for expensive vegan shoes! And i can accept that just because i do not wear/buy these products does not mean they will not still be a demand for them from others.
I do eat meat..i have the same view here..i like the taste of meat, our teeth are designed for eating it, man has been killing animals for food for many many years and to be honest i would be totally prepared to kill an animal in the wild and pepare it for food if i was hungry. Yes i know there are some very cruel conditions nowadays and i do try to buy freerange whatsit dooodah chicken etc when i can afford it! If someone is totally against killing animals for food/clothes etc then there isnt much thaey can eat there is animal product in so much these days..gelatine in many sweets is not suitable for vegetarians..eggs..milk etc. is in loads of foods! to be completely vegan you would have to be very dedicated and i just dont have the time morals or inclination to be honest..i think it takes a lot of people to be very dedicated to make any difference and i know its lazy and selfish but i just dont have it in me to fight a losing battle.

Man's been killing animals for fur for many many years

Its not that wearing animal skin is a problem for me... otherwise eating meat would also be a problem... its the way in which the animals are killed in order to obtain the fur that I have an issue with...saying that animals are also killed in quite a cruel way to obtain meat... lets face it... in order to preserve the meat correctly you can't exactly put them to sleep peacefully with a cocktail of drugs... usually electrocution and shooting are involved. :( I've looked into how my meat is prepared...but I won't go into details because it will upset people...but I am of the opinion, that if you are going to eat something, then you need to realise how its been brought to you, and if you can't cope with that...then you shouldn't be eating meat. However, the preparation of animal furs, in some cases is quite horrific... and that I really can't agree with.

The basic reasons I don't wear leather, have leather sofas, other than the way some fur/leather is sourced...is because leather makes this awful sound thats a kin to nails on chalk boards for me...and I always come out in a rash if I wear fur, faux fur, or wool... so I just avoid those materials. But I can't be high and mighty about it, because I will eat meats.

Yeah thats true but i wouldn't be prepared to kill an animal for fur but i would kill an animal if i was hungry- plus they were actually killing animals for food and used the fur to keep warm..not like nowadays where fur is big money!

Thats true.... :) They also used bones for tools and ate every part of the animal that was edible. :)

Same as Squiglet - its how the fur is obtained that bothers me

I eat meat and I know how animals are killed for meat. But I wouldn't wear fur as I don't like how the animals are treated to otain the fur. Personal choice

I wouldn't wear fur and I'm considering becoming a vegetarian aswell. As I said in the other post about fur, the company I work for feel very strongly about animal cruelty and the things I've heard almost made me cry, in fact I would have done if there weren't 20 other people in the room.
On the other hand, we are omnivores and eating meat is what we've done for thousands of years. But IMHO as long as the animal is free range and killed as quickly and kindly as possible then it shouldn't be an issue...Food chain :)

After reading up on how some animals are killed for fur I feel sick to the stomach.
How can ANYONE justify wearing real fur?
I am a meat eater myself but and yes I feel guilty at times but I could never live with myself for wearing something that is not a necessity :shakehead:

Carina you say where you come from its the norm but has coming here where there's no need to wear it has made you question yourself?

It is written in my original topic. That there is no need to wear fur here. That is why I havent bought anything fur related for years. I believe, that there are countries, where wearing fur is a necessery ( I dont know if any of you have been to a place where outside you have to cover your face not to get a frostbite, and you have icicles on your lashes and inside your nose. Basically it is COLD. REally cold. And nothing will warm you up apart from a sheepskin coat)

Question myself - No. I consider myself quite a good girl on the whole. I never approved wearing fur when there is no need for it, never approved killing zebras, tigers and etc. just for the sake of fashion and fur industry. I am all for the human attitude to animals and believe me, I LOVE animals. Seeing pictures of animals being mistreated really hurts me, but, if I go and stay with my mum in winter I see nothing wrong with borrowing her fur coat and wearing it. I dont see it as a killed animal, like you dont think of your meatballs as a dead cow. I see it just as nice warm peace of clothing. (Dont know if it makes sence? :) )
Would I buy one myself? - No, but not because I dont approve wearing fur, just because there is no need for it here.
Hope it makes sence :D

I don't wear fur. The only animal skins that I would go near are vintage, and that is because I would rather see it used to its full potential than wasted, or else the animal really did die pointlessly. I hate when activists burn brand new animal products. I am a vegetarian and I only use BUPA approved cosmetics/toiletries. I can't control what happens to any prescription medications, though :/.

I obviously wish more people thought the way I do (doesn't everyone, no matter what their ideas are?), but I don't preach about it. If anyone wants to know why I make my decisions or tries to preach to me, I will speak up, but I think everyone is entitled to their own choices.
