I thought I was doing okay with breastfeeding Zachary eventually began putting on weight when he was last weighed on Saturday. (Lost 7% but then hadn't gained for over a week, not being discharged from midwife till back at birth weight) however the last few days I have no idea what is going on! He's 16 days old today and imjust demand ffeeding.

He seems to be lazy latching on, he'll lick and open his mouth a little and suck, but takes him a while to properly open his mouth - he ends up frustrated.
He looks like he's latched properly but it hurts! Its like his bottom gum is just scraping my boob! Sometimes he'll loose he latch every few minutes and I gotta start again.
sometimes he only feeds for 10 minutes, and sometimes an hour! Last night he drained my left boob and made a good start on the right. But the last few days he's been sick after a feed, not every feed though, he's not distressed afterwards. (I wind him after and sometimes half way through a feed)

is this just normal?!
I was thinking about trying to express for his last feed before bed tonight so I know how much he is taking. Good or bad idea?

any advice welcome! X

Hey, I'm sure other ladies might have more experience but I can relate as Summer was a bit like this at first and still is sometimes, although the feeding has never hurt. She was particularly lazy arlt latching at night time which meant constant on off feeding and so I ended up switching to expressing and feeding at night time. I am still doing this for a couple of feeds over night. Not suggesting this as a good idea as I would like to stop as its a faff with bottles but it does gurnatee some good sleep!

I have found that the older she has got the better she has got at latching and she is now generally good. She is often a bit sick after feeds, I mentioned to HV and she said its normal unless its major projectile vomiting or it is causing her distress which it doesn't. It did make me paranoid that she has reflux but I don't think so. Its just hard to know what's nornal! Nmm

She also took a while to get back to birth weight and so I had to express to top up her breastfeeds xx
