Hi there. I am after some advice if you don't mind. I fall in the category of 'unexplained infertility' 7 years and 3 miscarriages all before 12 weeks. I've had all the tests as has husband. The only thing I haven't had is a laparoscopy. When I had my HSG it was all clear. Is it still worth me having a laparoscopy (or is it very similar to hsg) as well before we go for IUI at the end of the year? As far as I'm aware I ovulate every month (bloods confirmed and do the odd ovulation stick) my cycles are between 28-31 days and last 2-4 days.

Whatever advice anyone has is greatly appreciated

Many thanks

Hi hun, when I was referred to the fertility clinic she looked at all my notes(cycles regular, hubby sperm ok all bloods n scans ok) and said it was best to go straight to a lap as it was only then would we understand if I had any probs or not. She didn't bother with a hsg just did along with the op when I was under. They found endo on both sides and removed it all n I fell pg two months later. She Saud they wouldnt have found it without the op so I would defo say have it done hun.

The hsg only checks the tubes whereas the lap looks at everything in the pelvic area. Its definitely worth getting it done to put your mind at rest. Mine was clear which was good but still unexplained! If you have endo they can remove some of it at the same time. Good luck!

I would go ahead with it too, its the only way to really know whats going on in there. I had mine as we knew I had endo, it was confirmed by lap and removed at the same time xx

Thanks for the replies. All really useful. Think lap is the way forward and may just go private xx

Have they suggested the lap? When they said I could have it done they booked me in there and then for about 6 weeks later so not long to wait xx

My hsg came back ambiguous so I had a lap and found endo and one of my ovaries stuck to my stomach so was worth doing, I also got my surgery about 6 weeks after the appointment during which we decided to go for it so not a horrendous wait xx

Thanks for the posts. Was that through gp only or fertility consultant? I am No longer under a fertility consultant as last year it all got too much as they said there was nothing more they could do for me and suggested IUI or IVF so I took time out as we can't get help on nhs so would have to self find. I'm ready to get back on the roller coaster now but worried it will take months to get referred again. Aghhhh! x

Mine was through the hospital before we went Private. By the time all the tests had been done I had passed the age limit for free treatment! :(

I had all my investigations on the nhs even though we knew we wouldn't get any actual fertility treatment as we have a child. My fertility consultant did my lap under gynae rather than fertility so I could have it on the nhs I think because I get lots of period pain etc xx

Mine was done through gynae too as not entitled to the lap through fertility due to having a son already xx
