Bee has had immediate reactions twice (to baby porridge - which has lots of ingredients 'from milk') and to Greek yoghurt. These were about a month apart and I made the porridge with my breast milk... she comes up in a kind of stinging nettle type rash on her face.

Going to arrange a GP appointment but it might not be for a while as it's non urgent.

Should we also see HV?

I am assuming it's not a full on dairy intolerance as she doesn't react to butter? But we'll steer clear of dairy for the time being.

How hard is it to manage a dairy / lactose intolerance?

My friends little boy has severe lactose I tolerance .

I would speak to your Hv too , she had to fight a lot to get it diagnosed but she gets a prescription for milk because it's expensive to buy.

My baby has cows milk protein allergy (CMPA). He reacts to ANY milk I eat though (he's breastfed). He was quite an unwell, unhappy baby until I read about it online and cut dairy. No health professionals took me seriously but I trialled stopping all dairy and he was a different child!! He hasn't stopped smiling aince. All the nights where he screamed with 'colic' we're in fact poorly tummy screams :( he threw up and poo'd constantly and had a rah in his face that slowly spread down his body. Since then I've seen a new HV who believes me and suggested I try a 'milk ladder' so I would try eating something with the tiniest bit of milk and if he doesn't react work up. So 2 days ago I are a single biscuit. Poor thing has been poorly ever since :( it's awful as every time I feed him I feel like I'm poisoning him. So that's it now, dairy free again and then repeat the trial in a month. They say to keep repeating it as most babies grow out if it. I know my story is a little different but thought if share. The only thing I'd say is follow your instincts, you know your baby and doctors can say "no they're fine" but they don't see the suffering.
My last doctor said "he doesn't like the taste of your breast milk"!!!!! Are you joking me!!! Anyway, I know by stopping dairy I've made him better so that's what il continue to do. I was told I wouldn't be referred until he was weaning as he migh have grown out of it by then but as your little lady is older I'd see if your doctor will refer you to a paediatrician so you can work out exactly what she's reacting to and how to manage it.
Maybe you would be better going down the baby led weaning route?

I'd suggest a chat with HV too. Maybe see if she has any ideas, hopefully the GP will be helpful.
Do you breastfeed or bottle feed? Do you think there has been anything to make you think of an intolerance before? I think if there was an intolerance it would have reared its head before weaning?

My son is like this or well really was when he was about 6 months.. Stuff like cheese used to make him insta vomit... I'm cautious with dairy and he has toddler milk over normal cows milk and he never took to that.. He does eat a bit of cheese on pizza, he hates mayo. Takes little yoghurt but has about a pouch a day.. Doesn't like cereals.. Does eat butter on bread although that stuff ain't really butter.. Butter butter he only really has in mash which we don't eat that often.. Doesn't like soft cheese... He is 2 now.. His dad though, only ever has milk in his mash or coffee.. The only cheese he eats is Philadelphia on ritz biscuits he wouldn't dream of eating pizza or yoghurts.. I think it may be an intolerance, my GP is proper alienate when it comes to diet or food allergies so I don't bother.. I hate my local HV's so am not bothering with them either... Little man does eat spinach which is a good alternative for calcium.. So I think he either takes after his dad and doesn't like it.. Or they both naturally don't like it as much because they both might be slightly intolerant...

My son has what we think is lactose intolerance - every time he has anything with milk or cheese in he is sick, although not as bad as he was when he was little (he was originally diagnosed with reflux at 6/7 weeks old). We just switched over to Lactofree whole milk, cream, spread and cheese and he's been fine since. We had a little slip up last week when I accidentally fed him a meal with milk in and he was a bit sick a few hours later. So for us it has been really easy managing the lactose intolerance, as long as mummy remembers to check the ingredients in packet food! I felt so bad.

Thanks ladies.

She has never had any reaction to my milk and although I don't have masses of dairy, I definitely have some daily. At least it's just milk in tea and most it's cheese and yoghurt... she has never had any reactions. That said she has always been a sicky baby. I too her to GP and HV about her sickness but as she is otherwise healthy and happy they just said she is a sicky baby lol.

It's quite common for lactose allergy not to show until weaning - from what I have read online anyway.

I am going to try some weetabix with breast milk as per the HV I spoke to on the phone.

I'm going to nip to baby clinic on Wednesday and have her weighed and see HV.

My Little boy has been on lactose free formula, as he basically had the runs on the other formulas and bad wind/tummy. This didn't actually show itself until 8 weeks, then again at 12 weeks when we did get the lactose free formula prescribed. HV got us to try comfort milk, which worked for a few weeks and then really, I researched and tried SMA Lactose Free formula from Boots - it seemed to do the trick so I went to the doctor and asked for it on prescription - which he did to my surprise!!

Zac's now nearly one, and still has lactose free cheese, yoghurts and milk. We have given him the odd item milk related and not seen a reaction, but not tested it that thoroughly to be honest as I don't want to make him poorly!

My OH thinks it was just a formula issue and that Zac will be fine with normal milk/products now he's older but time will tell.

My boy has cmpa and has instant reactions to the tiniest bit of dairy.. it pours out of his bottom projectile and he comes up in a rash all over his face and torso his eye even swelled one time. It takes some getting used to but you just learn to manage it. We are lucky he is OK with soy xxx

My son can tolerate yoghurt cheese etx but give him cows milk in a bottle or in porridge and all hell breaks loose.

He's now under referral to dietician - because there seems to be a level of tolerance but a level of intolerance.

It may be lactose OR CMPI - I'd log all side effects you have when giving milk/dairy and get yor HV on board aswell as GP and ask for dietician referral :)
