I love knitting. My mum taught me years ago but I was never that good at it. Then a couple of years ago the girl sitting next to me was teaching herself to knit and I had a look at what she was doing and decided to have a go myself. After knitting a couple of squares and looking at tips on line I really started to understand what I was doing right/wrong and what the different types of stitches look like and understood the concept of right and wrong side. Once you've got the hang of that it gets a lot easier.
I've done a few cardigans, loads of mittens, booties and hats for friends LOs. I tried to do a jumper for myself, but it went totally wrong. I have a real problem keeping my tension right on bigger things. Small hats and booties etc are fine, but something bigger always ends up being a lot longer than it should be, even when the width is right. Finally asked advice in the knitting shop and was told to knit on a bigger needle and that seems to have sorted it out.
I'm now working on a blanket for our own LO. I'm so excited by it. It's the most complex thing I've tried (even though the pattern says easy) and it's taken hours to fully understand the pattern and get it right. I've had to unknit it several times. The whole first row of colour is completely wrong, but I've finally got the hang of it and it's starting to look really good. Not sure if it's going to be complete in time for LO coming though, it's going to take a lot of knitting!
For any of the problems you guys who are new to knitting might have I can really recommend the videos on You Tube. Just type your problem or the stitch you're trying to understand into google and you'll find a video which will demonstrate and talk you through it. There are also loads of free patterns online if you search for them. Enjoy!
