Can anyone Crochet??
I'd bet that most people are gonna say no, but that their neighbours/nanna's etc can.....

I used to be able to, my nanna taught me when i was little, i know i still could, but am having trouble getting for nice wool for me to be able to make a blanket out of!!

Probably sound really old and boring now!! :rotfl:

Thought i'd ask anyways!!!

xox

we learned at school and looking back i wish i had listend to what was being told  so now i wish i could but i cant :wall: lol

The only bit i can't do is the starting off bit getting the circle to start off the blanket, nanna or mum always did that bit for me!!!
Have been looking on t'internet for how its done!!!

i know yu can get books patterns and stuff from ebay maybe its worth a look ontheir?

i just done it the lazy way and got someone else to do both my shawls (had to pay for them though and both havent been used....lol)

Have got a book from borders, but don't really understand it... its all in some form of code!! lol!!!

Nanna made my baby shawl back in 1999 for me (i was 16/17then!), its in tissue paper in a box in her loft! she's so proud she did it so long ago... apparantly you can't get wool like that anymore!! ha ha!!!

She made one for my best friend Allison to take Faith home from hospital in, and a little cardigan! She's really good at stuff like that!!!

yeah i personaly think the older the person who does it the better the stuff will be. When Adele was born it was an 85yr old woman who done hers. it only cost me £25 butbythe timeAdele was out of hospital it was the summer and i just never used it so its still in teh tissue paper in her memory box along side all her wee prem stuff...lol So when Colby was born i got someone else to do hers as tehwoman before had not long passed awa. So the woman who done Colbys was only 46 and it was no where near as good as Adeles so Colbys is still in thebox as i didnt like it very much :shhh: dont tell anyone i said that

ha ha!! :shhh: your secret's safe with me!!!
I've got a blanket upstairs that i crocherd(sp?) when i was about 10!!
It was 3 times the size of me when i finished it! am still proud of it, unfortunately i did it in colours that just don't go with anything so it stays in its bag... but it comes out in the winter when it gets cold!!!

Want to keep on the "tradition" of being able to crochet, cos Mum never does things like that even though she can, and nanna's - well a nanna, so i need to be able to do it!!

am having an old age crisis at 24!!! :wall:

I went for a visit to a day centre for people with alzheimers once and the ladies there tried to teach me knitting much to their amusement, I was hopeless!!

Now give me a rubber stamp & some ink and I can do wonders ;)

I can crochet (only basic) made everyone scarves at xmas - lol!! My OH has never worn his so I don't think I'm that good! I'm going to start a baby blanket for definite - but not until i get to 12 weeks! (Paranoia).

Where I live (Derby) there is a great stall in the market that sells really soft baby wool - its amazingly soft and is available in all the pastel baby colours. If you have a market near you its worth going there, if the stall doesn't sell baby wool they should be able to point you in the right direction.

Also, crochet and knitting is aparrently coming back into 'fashion' - with many women meeting in their pubs for 'stitch and bitch' sessions! Thats what the old lady at the market told me last weekend!
Good luck :)

same here. I voted no but I wish I could. Would love to have a skill :(

When I was a kid my mam taught me to crochet, but I wasn't very good at it. I could do the stitches, it's just that I only ever seemed to be able to make this random strange curved type piece of material that I never knew what to do with. It was bizarre...no matter how hard I tried, it seemed to go sort of banana shaped after I'd crocheted a while. (It's a bit hard to explain). I could do the actual stiches fine though.
Now I can't even remember how to do the stiches lol.

I can knit and purl though - but only in straight lines lol. Can't make anything fancy, just scarves and blankets lol.

Its cool that people can knit and stuff!!
When i miscarried in Feb i became determined to do something with my hands, so i started quilting.... by hand - no machines!
So much hard work, lots of tiny little stitches! Then we moved house, and its in my "sewing" cupboard.... not got it back out yet!
Really should, but i think crocheting will be more relaxing!!
