I have had this problem with Joseph for a long time and found out baby socks are better than mittens.

yes i cut his nails pretty much everyday lol. but i just peel them. i find the nail cutter too dangerous, i'm not good at using.

But otherwise, I would put the on him when he slept, Joseph scratched a hell of a lot more when he was tired or sleeping. I could go some days without the socks but other days he'd have to wear them through out the day and night (but only when I wasn't in close range to keep an eye out).
It truly does work though. I think scratch mittens are too much money, when socks do exactly the same job but better
