And it wasnt as scary as i thought it was going to be, the first one was about labour and pain relief, i have so many leaflets to read now though. Anyone else had their antinatal classes and what did you think to them? next one is next thursday and its about delivery normal and abnormal.

i found them boring lol im sure they just go over the same thing.
but i did go 2 all of them summit 2 do i spose
i found breastfeedin workshop quite good but 2 hours of learnin 2 breast feed a bit long i think lol

i didn't go to any. i feel pretty confident in my knowledge, i think the only reason i would go would be to make friends, but my best friend recently had a son & said that everyone looked down on her for being younger (we're both 18). i couldn't be bothered with that. i did have a hospital tour booked, but seeing as i was put on the delivery ward when i lost my plug on friday, i think i got a pretty good tour, lol.

I enjoyed the first one which was about labour & delivery and felt more prepared for the whole thing and it also helped OH prepare but I didn't enjoy the second one as I don't plan on breastfeeding and when I mentioned this I got evil looks off everyone for the rest of the session!

ive never been to any not even sure if they are offered around here no one has ever mentioned them to me and im on 4th pregnancy  glad it went ok xxxxxxx

mine were pants and a total waste of my time. They didn't tell me anything I didn't already know!

I thought it was going to be a bit more practical advice on how to use breating techniques and differnt positions to help with the pain etc but all she did was practically read from the information book they give you and show you a few of the instruments that they might need to use :wall:

I really enjoyed mine, OH was able to come along to the Parentcraft ones and I had physio ones on my own. Was a great way to meet the midwifes and tour of the ward and what to expect when you get to hospital. Also a nice way to meet others due around the same time. Our last class was last week but a few of us decided to keep meeting up, up to and beyond babies coming so we're doing lunch once a week whilst we wait for everyone to pop! Lovely to have folk nearby who are going through the same thing.

Hope you enjoy yours too!

Ive had the first parentcraft one and the breastfeeding one which i found interesting. My OH came to both and was going to walk out of the breastfeeing one as he was the only male at the start. It was so funny as it took alot of effort to get him there in the first place! He hates anything like this and banned me from asking questions (we are so opposite).

We've got the coping with labour one soon. I love anything like this though. Always like meeting new people!

Exactly the same here!! I never went to one and have never been offered any and Im on my 4th!? Very odd I think! Though tbh I dont think I would have gone! I dont know! Never given the option lol!

i got some leaflets given to me about them at my booking in meeting, but that was it. nothing's been mentioned since.

all in all i enjoyed it, made it all a bit more real for me, i have a feeling this baby will be coming sooner rather than later so i am glad i am 2 weeks early with the classes should get to finish them that way lol.

Glad you enjoyed your class.

My midwife recommended them to me (and I think I mostly wanted to go as we moved here less than a year ago and I don't know anyone in this town).

They only do 1 very long 6 hour session and I've been booked in for 36 weeks - they said they only like doing them a month before due date! I've told Neil if I have to sit through it, he's coming too!

god 6 hours all at once i think i would get bored cant sit still for that long lol

I did say to Neil if it gets really boring we may have to sneak out like naughty children!!

When I was on the phone to the community midwife arranging it she had said 'oh you might want to bring a snack and a drink as they will probably let you have a break for 10 minutes or so halfway through'! I got off the phone and it suddenly occurred to me that she was talking about maybe letting a room full of women a month off dropping have a break in the middle of a 6 hour session! If I wasn't so befuddled because of my baby brain I may have had words there and then! :talkhand: :rotfl: I expect I'll be disappearing at least every half an hour to the toilet! :shhh:

Glad you enjoyed it. I have applied for one but didn't hear from them yet.. hmm, maybe I could ask my midwife on Monday.

6 hours there and they dont supply drink!!! we were there an hour and a half and kept being asked if we wanted tea or coffee or there was a big table with squash and biscuits.

We have got to both the NHS classes and an NCT course - and I have found both really helpful. We had a 2 hour session on breast feeding at the NCT course (which all the fellas were present for too!) and it was so helpful seeing the teacher demonstrate with a doll the practical technique - I am sure that will help me no end on that first night when I'm in hospital trying it for the first time alone!

Hope you get as much out of yours as I have mine - plus I have made some new firends too which I hope will also be invaluable support...!

I'm moving up near you!!

I was most shocked when I turned up for my first scan and found the antenatal ward was actually a portacabin! That's the NHS for you (apparently they are building a new department which will be ready in January! ) It's just as well they are all generally quite nice there!
