Went to the Dr yesterday for the results of my initial tests - we have been ttc since last September, but recently my cycle has been all over the place, very short, light periods and my last cycle was 78 days...

She said my ultrasound was normal, but my LH levels were higher than my FSH, and that in conjunction with my messed up periods suggested PCOS.

To make things worse, hubby got a letter yesterday too to request that he repeat his SA. I know we could be worrying over nothing but I feel that if it was just PCOS we could work with it, but if something isn’t right with both of us surely it will be so much harder?

We’ve been referred to the fertility clinic and have our appointment in a couple of weeks (on my birthday of all days...)

I guess I’m just struggling with the fact that there could be actual issues - part of me was still clinging to the fact that it’s ‘normal’ to take a year to conceive, and we weren’t quite there yet. I’d also never even thought of PCOS as an option - I don’t have any of the ‘typical’ symptoms but the more I read the more I think the less well known symptoms do seem to fit.

Any support or advice welcome - anyone here had a similar story?

Cycles of that length is a really clear symptom of pcos.
Repeating the test doesn't have to be bad, we had to re-do bloods because our clinic messed them up.

I know, that’s what I told hubby - maybe they dropped his sample or something? (I work in a lab, I know these things happen...) Or maybe it’s just something borderline and they want to double check? I know we shouldn’t try to second guess things until we speak to the fertility clinic but it’s so hard not to!

Just to give you a bit of hope with regards to PCOS, my sister has it also - fell pregnant within 6 months of coming off the pill. Her close friend also had it, took her a year, but tbh thats normal for most woman even without PCOS, so I am sure you will be fine.

FX for your oh :dust:

Hey Em, welcome to the boards.

Im a PCOS lady and there are things they can do. so please try not to worry just yet (I know, easier said than done) and with regards to your oh's sample, it could be a number of things, as you say, they could have dropped it or just wanted to double check something. I've had to repeat blood work previously. In my mind, the more they have on file, the clearer the picture they will have :)

Hey

I've got PCOS too. I've always thought answers were better than unexplained (they say ours is unexplained, as they don't seem to think PCOS is a big deal). I actually have periods regularly and I think that's harder to treat. I've thought it was his sperm then it would be easier to fix! So please don't worry... you're still in very early days and once you're on clomid it will probably help loads xx

Thank you ladies :)
DH spoke to the GP and looks like morphology is low, but everything else looks good - hence the repeat request.
Guess we’ll just have to see what the fertility clinic say next week... fingers crossed
