IVF - fear of needles

I thought I'd post this in case anyone else is like me and rubbish when getting injections in the hope that it puts your mind at ease.

I am the worlds best at fainting when I have blood taken so I was dreading starting IVF. I had my Prostrap injection on day 21 of my cycle and the nurse injected it at the top of my bum. She was mixing it all up and waving the plastic needle cover around and I was thinking 'Oh sh*t' but the truth is I didn't see it go in and I never felt a thing. Honestly, it was no big deal and I'd worked it up into something huge in my head.

She then taught us ( I took my man along for support) how to mix up the medication and she gave me a needle with nothing in it, to practise injecting myself. Again, it was the teeny tiniest of needles and I never felt a thing. She gave us a link to a video reminder of how to mix the drugs...so that was good as I'm sure the first time I start those jags I'll be nervous and faffing.

So that was one of my fears about starting this process and I couldn't find anything about it on the forums so I'm writing this in case you're in the same boat. My other half is calling me 'Two Jabs' for being such a big brave girl ;-)

Its only been a few days since the Prostrap injection and apart from a couple of mild headaches, and crying at everything on the News, I am feeling absolutely fine, normal. No nauseau or sweats so hopefully I'm not tempting fate and thats how it stays. I have two very close friends who have both been through IVF so I'm very lucky to have their support. We've chosen not to tell anyone else, if you're reading this I'm sure you already know how well wishing friends can say really insensitive things!

Also, a heads up if the drugs are getting delivered to the clinic rather than your home. We got a text from the clinic on the morning we were due to collect the drugs, telling us to bring a cool bag.... we didn't have one and believe me it's not an easy thing to buy in the winter months. A medium sized cool bag, not one of those big things you put the booze in at a BBQ. ;-)

Very handy tips there thank you! :) think I’ll be buying a cool bag in the summer ready for ivf! That’s not something I would have thought of!

Thankfully i don’t have a fear of needles but I was more concerned that I wouldn’t do it right if you know what I mean!

Glad it’s going well so far. Keep us updated xx
