So we are not thinking of doing IUI just yet but it popped into my head yesterday and I feel it could be worth a go if we are not pregnant in a few months.
I know IUI has much lower success rate that IVF but I don't think I can go through another IVF just yet and have been told recently that there is no reason we can't conceive naturally but IUI would obv give us a little helping hand.
My questions are;

What percentage of success does IUI have each go?
Do you have a trigger shot along with clomid cycle?
Has anyone done a medicated cycle with injectables and if so, are the meds very expensive?

xx

Subcribing to this as interested too :)
I think I read you do have a trigger shot with a clomid cycle :)
Xx

Hi Lisey.
Both of my girls are IUI babies! So hopefully I can help.
Success depends on age and the issue, for unexplained infertility the rates are lower than an ovulation problem like pcos. I was told I had a 25% chance of success, but I know they are as low as 2% in some cases. If the sperm is all good then iui often doesn't increase chances that much.
Both times I did iui with injectables and a trigger shot, second time we went private and total meds cost was around £200 I think. So not too crazy.
Good luck xxx

Will also be watching this thread due to have 3 cycles of iui with menopur and hcg trigger in June
Unexplained fertility

Thanks Blondy, Our issue is that I have endometriosis (had lap to laser most of it off) and low egg reserve but still ovulate. OH SA was great on the last one. Our IVF did work but pregnancy ended at 12 weeks.
Our IVF drugs alone were £2500 so I thought the drugs for IUI could be similar if we went for medicated route but £200 is fine, ours may be a little more as I would probably need higher doses but still wouldn't be into the thousands xx

I think iui is similar to trying naturally but when everything is where is should be if you know what I mean! As you know my first iui worked and were pretty similar cases I think although my tube situation is worse than your yours. We used clomid and trigger, all in drugs were about £100. I'd recommend it for sure xx

This is what I am thinking, will it increase chances much but then at the same time it may just help things along a little bit, takes away the timing issues and also could possibly increase chances by producing more than one dominant follicle. I feel like it might be worth one try before we consider IVF in the future again, if we don't get pregnant naturally that is. My OH seems very open to it so I think we will give it a few months and consider it as an option xx

Yes I liked knowing timing was 100% and that egg and spermies were in the exact right place and the clomid, and so assume injectibles, make the egg or eggs the best they can be, I'd do more but I think hubby felt after the failed last two that we were throwing money away...xx

I did read the other day when researching that they recommend 3 goes at IUI and then to move on, not really sure why. I think they insert the sperm higher up too so closer to where they need to be. I am a bit concerned about clomid with endometriosis though so may ask if they can give femara instead xx

I did 6 IUIs with PCOS and unfortunately none were successful but as you see, others have had success so it's worth a go. I'm glad we did all of our goes, I thought it was the next step up from trying naturally and that mid step before IVF so I wanted to cover everything we could. Plus i felt reassured that the best of DH's sample was being injected in the best place. I didn't do Clomid alongside mine, I just injected Gonal F, Cetrotide and Ovitrelle as my trigger. I'm not sure what the costs of the meds were but an IUI cycle was just under £900 at my clinic - not sure what that covers though.

I think its worth trying before ivf (I know you had IVF already) as its less invasive. I had just the trigger shot, no other meds. Its good to know you have an egg ready and to get the best of the sperm!
