Have been thinking about the name Keeley for our little girl.

Internet searches says it means beautiful but they also say it is irish. I have irish family and spend a lot of time in Ireland but I have never heard this name in Ireland and the spelling certainly doesnt look irish. I I know there are lots of irish girls on here, is it an irish name??

What do you all think of it? It isn't the prettist name necessarily but I thought it sounds quite funky and would suit and teenager as well as a baby. ALso how would you spell it? I would like to use the most common spelling so we wouldn't have to keep correcting it do you think Keeley or Keely or something else?

Thanks in advance for your help.

I like it. I only know one Keeley. I would spell it with the e at the end too xx

Bootiful name :)

I don't think it's a "traditional" Irish name as such....... It sounds like it might be a derivative of the surname Kelly maybe but I don't really know TBH.
It's still a very pretty name :)

Hi - I believe it's more a Surname than a Christian name in parts of Ireland but that's not to say some people don't use it as a Christian name. There are two close Irish names -Caollaidhe (as Keeley or Kayley) or Cadhla (as Kaylah or Kyla).
Cadhla has a translation of"
a beauty that only poetry can capture".

yeah it is Irish just not a particularly common one as like most it originates from surname as the girls have said
i really like i though . kayla is on our list and most people don't realise its Irish too cos they expect funny spelling lol

Thanks for the help girls, I had thought it might be a nickname for Cadhla and it would make sense that it is a surname although I don't know anyone with the surname (I know loads of Kellys though). I really like it as a first name and unlike Rylee which is our other top choice it is more girly and less american I think. Definately going on the shortlist.

Its an Irish girl name and its meaning is Handsome. Its a preety cool name and i love to pronounce it Keeley rather tha Keely. This name also appear in other countries:

English, Gaelic, Irish

I have a friend called Keely and she is Irish (but she is not a redhead).

My neice is named Keely completely irrelevant of course. :) just means I am more biased towards the name.

That isn't irrelevant Bella, I'm glad there are a few little Keely's out there as I wanted a name that was uncommon but not so unique that no one has ever heard of it and thinks it is made up.

Wasnt that the name of one of the girls in the irish pop band Bewitched - isnt it Shane Lynch's little sister. Not much help- but she's irish. lol

My name is Keely and I must admit i have not really met many others....

There are a variety of ways to spell it, all of which people seem to get wrong for me hah

keely
keeley
keighley
keelie
