Isaac keeps crying/screaming out for us, up to 5 times a night, but when we go to him he is still asleep. The only way to calm him is to pick him up, rock him a minute, then put him back in his cot, all the while he's still asleep. Is it dreams/nightmares? Teething? Or something else? Any experience, advice, greatly appreciated

 idk what kind of scream is it? is it blood-curdling like a fox cry? or just normal baby-temper scream?

millie sometimes lets out a chilling yell in the nite, that altho isnt blood-curdling like a fox it still makes my heart skip and shudder for half a second. im of course highly alert ready to go to her- but she usually just moans a little bit then settles back down before iv even lifted my head up.

its not 5 times a nite tho, just once or twice, sometimes not at all.

sounds horrid for u, hope ur ok and he is too

Thankyou for the reply trixipaws  Maybe my not leaving him to cry/scream is the problem then? If I left him he may re-settle himself  It's a proper blood curdling scream though, from silence, and its a bit heart stopping scary, so I or OH just go straight to him, within the minute, just I know a usual stir for him is slight mumbling and gurgles, but this is different, but ike I said he's not in any obvious pain as he's still asleep and he's certainly not hungry :|

 that's a hard one.
LO shouts out but usually wakes herself up :wall: My HV said that babies don't dream until they are much older - at this stage they are just 'practising' what they learn in the day time. But in this article http://www.drgreene.com/21_619.html it says that they do dream. If little Isaac is dreaming... what an earth about? :) Hope he settles down soon - it must be a shock to hear that in the night.

Maisie also does this sometimes and I think it is when she moves in her sleep and accidently wakes up but realises she doesn't want to wake up as she is tired so screams/crys a little bit and then goes back to sleep. I always pick her up though and as soon as I do she is asleep on my shoulder.

I could be completly wrong but that is what I think it might be.
