I am currently being plagued by a rock hard stomach from bedtime up til 3 or 4 in the morning which is so uncomfortable i cant sleep at all til about 4am then my LO starts to fret about 5am so its getting to be a real problem for me. I cant really call it braxton hicks because it doesnt come and go , its just like it has been inflated to bursting and if i move about to try to relieve the position it only gets worse, moving triggers even more contracting. Drinking more doesnt help. Googling a bit it sounds a bit like it could be an irritable uterus. Has anyone been diagnosed with that or any professionals on here who would agree with my self-diagnosis? It appears to be something that is not medically a problem although it can bring a threat of early labour, which wont be an issue for me as i am almost 37 weeks now anyway. I had the same in my last pregnancy and went all the way to 40 weeks with contractions all night which was unbearable as they were incredibly painful last time. This time at least they are only very uncomfortable its just that they stop me sleeping thats the problem more than the pain. is there anything i can do to relieve it? I think i will stop taking raspberry leaf tea to see if that helps, which is a shame as i wanted the benefits but not if its contributing to this nighttime nightmare!

Have you tried a pillow under your bum and back?

I'm not pregnant but saw no-one else was offering advice so I'll jump in here... My cousin complained of a tight feeling in her belly when she was pregnant. She said peppermint tea helped a lot because its meant to relax all of your muscles, and make you sleep better. So maybe try that? Just don't drink too much or it can give you some nasty heartburn.

Raspberry leaf tea may be what is causing it (p.s. cant believe you are nearly 37 weeks already) so I would say stop taking that first to see if it helps after a couple of days or reduce the consumption. Peppermint is good as will also help with any digestive issues that could be contributing to it. Also if it is stopping you from sleeping try getting up and doing some gentle stretches as this may help relax the muscles.

That's what happened to me with raspberry leaf tea. Except that when I lay down the tightness would ease off so it wasn't too bad at night.

Worth mentioning it to you MW though because it can be a sign of problems. Although if you had it in your last pregnancy it's probably not an issue just annoying!

it has been a little better since i backed off the raspberry leaf tea so i think it was definitley aggravating the contracting. if only it actually brought on labour i would bear with it but all it will do is make my last couple of weeks incredibly painful ! Yeah as i had this last pregnancy i know it doesnt mean i will go into early labour.....its just really horrible going to bed each night knowing i will be awake until dawn comes.....i'm getting by with the help of a mid morning nap with my LO because i never seem to have the tightness at that time of day!
