So last night I woke up to a really bad achy pain in my back, left side sort of in my waist! After a few mins it went. Today Ive had the same pain 3 times now,, the pain was very intense, it made me go clammy and felt a bit light headed! it goes after a couple of mins, it's not regular or anything not having pain anywhere else, absolutely no other signs of labour so I'm wondering if it could just be position of baby or is could it be the start of labour?? I'm 37+2

Has anyone had a similar experience?? Xx

It could be baby's position, it could be the start of labour or it could be braxton hicks! Take paracetamol, have a bath, walk around, have loads to drink and time them. Labour contractions are usually pretty bang on time so any irregularity is either braxton hicks or very early labour which they wouldn't bring you in for just yet anyhow.

Keep us updated hun and hope you're ok!

A lot of ladies get back pain when labour starts so it could be the start of something hun but if you are feeling dizzy etc give your midwife a quick call and see what she says x

I've phoned delivery suite, they think it sounds muscular, but I don't understand how it's muscular when it's not constant?? But we shall see, I really don't want to be in labour just yet, ive got 1 week left of my degree, this is very bad timing of it's the start of labour lol! I thought braxton hicks were painless?? It doesn't feel like contractions it's just achy but constant for about a minute, there's definately no pattern in when it comes! It's very irregular! I'll keep you updated xxx

I agree with the above could be anything really! Start of labour or braxton hicks, they can be in your back too. Could just be baby getting lower down in preparation you could still have weeks left so try not to worry! - fingers crossed for you! :) see how you get on and give them a call if you're concerned x

One of my girls keeps moving on and off a nerve and I get a terrible pain in the area you are describing, sometimes there is just no comfortable position until she moves. If you're describing an ache then I wouldn't have thought it was contractions as they were much lower and sharper for me, like period pains (but at the same time nothing like because they're so painful ha!) but as others have said, it could be a prelude for things to come.
In terms of easing the pain, my mw just told me to rest, there is pretty much nothing they could do, however I found lying on my back with my knees bent and then slowly moving my knees to one side and then the other whilst trying to keep my back on the floor really helped ease it.

That braxton hicks are painless for all women is bunkum! Some women don't notice them at all, others do and some can be extremely painful particularly towards the end of pregnancy. I'm glad you phoned delivery suite if only for your own peace of mind. Muscles in the torso constantly relax and contract as they hold the body up and respond to balance even the most minor movements, which could possibly be why it's coming and going.

Keep an eye as I'm sure you would, and keep your legs crossed for another week to hold that baby in!

Thanks for all your replies ladies!! Im still getting the pain slightly so I'm guessing it's probs not labour as I'm sure it would be getting worse not better! It tends to ease off if I get on all fours, might look a bit silly if I'm at uni on all fours though :/ lol zxx

Colleen glad you are feeling a little better, try the bath and some paracetamol as kumber says, if nothing else it will help to relax you x

Maybe it is baby position. Try some paracetamol and have a lie down on your left hand side x

I'd say it's the baby's position hun. I get (not 1 word of a lie) horrific pain in my back, right side. Midwife said its most likely baby's knee or foot in my rib cage, ouuuuch xx

Hi ladies, defo not labour as still no baby, I think it's muscular and ive pulled something when I had my op last week because it seems to come on when I sit in certain positions or turn over in bed! xxx

Don't want to be the bearer of bad news but if only Labour was that quick lol -

Slow labour can last weeks - I remeber a lady on here who was in slow labour for 10 days - was horrible for her

I'm sure it's just late pregnancy - could be baby engaging or anything - just keep an eye and like you are doing speak wth triage
