Arrrghh my house is under attack from maggots!!

Our bins are kept out front and due to the hot weather the recycling bin has obviously been attracting flies. It's raining today so all the maggots are now searching for a nice dry place to live - MY HOUSE! Matt opened the front door this morning and we were immediately besieged by at least 50 of the little buggers which had to be dysoned up (they're still alive in there!). Our front door opens straight into my front room so it's not hygenic for Ella.
My sister just came over and sprayed some fly spray out there and she told me to put salt on my front doorstep (I know that kills slugs, not sure about maggots though), but they're climbing up my guttering and I think they're going to get into the attic as we have gaps under the eaves. They were up nearly as high as my roof 30 mins ago

Feeling sick as it as and am now trapped indoors as as soon as I open my door they fall off the bottom onto my carpet and they're fast little shits!

Feel like crying!

OH NO you poor thing Id be terrified and go and live at my mums lol! can you get pest control out to get rid of them all/

Matt's phoned the council and they are going to try and empty the recycling bin, but we'll still be left with all the maggots.

I can't even get out of the house because of all of the ones that come in when I open the door :(

 oh my god hun poor you  weve not got the recycling system here yet its due to start any time now and then we will only have our green bin emptied once a fortnight im goint to leave mine at the bottom of the garden and drag bin out through the back gate on bin day im scared to death of getting infested with maggots xxx

This is about 5% of the maggots, there are thousands out there! :puke:

Oh gawd Kina I bet thats put you off the recycling bin!!!

I'd ring back & ask if the res anything they can do to help other than emptying the bin!

Defo do the salt thing I think it may work, we used it for slugs somehow they were crawling over my sofa! Nice trial marks over brown suede

we have recycleing here, Jase is a recycle freak, i hate it, he washes all teh jars and tins out then leaves them pileing up around the sink, once they have built up to the point where im ripping my hair out he finaly takes them outside.
gets right on my nerves lol

xx

no offencem, but i wihs i hadnt opened this post now hunny, i feel soooo sorry for you, maggots are one of my biggest fears. that has made me sick i just had to run to be sick ewww

Sorry Lozzi :(

Layla - Matt is the same with the jars and bottles, gets right on my nerves! That bin is for veggie peelings and garden waste, you aren't allowed to bag it up so it's just all free and rotting inside the bin :puke:

:puke: thats gross, we dont have that here, hope we dont either!

they only collect paper plastic bottles jars and tins.

i have to admit, im not in to recycleing, i dont see that it makes that much diffrence when we are useing sprays and chemicals everyday that kill the o zone.

xx

OMG kina ur pregnant too, how the hell are u going anywere near that bin, id be locked in a cupboard many floors up from them! ahha

They're going to start prosecuting people for not recycling and putting the right stuff in the right bins I heard, which is why we really started doing it properly, plus our main bin was always full up. Apparently the councils have targets they have to meet for the amount of stuff that is recycled - they keep putting leaflets through my door to say they've missed me and that they came round to talk about recycling!

Took the pic through the window and am hiding upstairs (thank god Ella is napping!).

Feel so ill anyway. I was eating my toast when Matt opened the front door and the first lot barraged in :puke:

barf!!!!! That is vile!

Kina phone the council back and start to cry down the phone until they come and deal with the bin. Pull the pregnant woman hormonal stuff hun!

layla it wont be long hun and we are getting it in wales too ours is due to start any time :( we had a letter about it the other week by september 2007 all of wales should be on the scheme its awful they are only going to empty 1 bin a week your black bin 1 week the green 1 the following week anybody caught putting the wrong things in wrong bins will be prosecuted :( we will all be crawling by next summer :puke:

kina      xxxxxx

EEEEWWWWWWW that is disgusting, that happened to my mum's bin the other week, she was mortified. When it happened to one of my friends they were that disgusted they started a petition to try and get their bins emptied weekly....they got loads of signitures and they succeeded..I'm thinking of starting one in our street. Surely this is wrong, they can't expect us to live with maggots crawling out of everywhere, plus the smell is minging....makes me sick... :puke:

woah seroiusly?! thats madness!

we dont have alley ways here so it would have to be kept out the front on teh pavents permantly, there is no way im dragging bins through my house! i have cream carpets lol

the street is going to look so crap if they do that, still Jase will be happy, gives him something else to recycle lol

xxx

ohhh no your poor thing thats horrid ild be in a right state. i dont no what to say im sooooo scared of maggots when i used to go fishing with my dad and brother they used to throw them in m y hair... i was just eating my honey nut loops i cant eat them now. :(

 to kina

That's awful!!! We have a similar recycling system in Leicester, where they only empty the bins every fortnight, and the black bin (normal rubbish) stinks. The only place I can put the bin is next to the front door, and it makes me heave when I go outside. It'a also covered in maggots today, but not to the extent of yours. Ours has been emptied this morning and I have just poured a whole bottle of bleach inside it. I'm leaving it like this until I have a black bag to go in there, then DH can rinse it out.

I think the recycling is a great idea - we have a green bin for plastic, tins, etc., a red bag for paper, cardboard, etc., a green box for glass and fabric, a brown bin for garden waste, and a black wheelie bin for the rest. The only thing that is wrong is that they alternate weeks, so you only get a collection every 2 weeks. The green and red ones are fine as I wash everything that goes in there, but it's the black one that's the problem. :puke:

Kina - my council has email for the different departments. Can you not email them the photo???
