Hi all

I had an episiotomy for forceps delivery and I am convinced the wound is infected. My MW has checked the wound and agreed the wound is slightly open but its now started leaking fluid and it doesnt smell too nice. I had it re-checked at the hospital and a swab taken (awaiting results) but the MW said I should try manuka honey on the wound.

Just want some general advice really - how long did the wound take to heal, is the honey a good idea etc??

I've never used it myself but honey is a great antiseptic and great wound healer. Some wound dressings are made out of it so it must be worth a try.

I used to put some drops of tea tree oil on my pad as thats meant to be a great disinfectant. It really helped to soothe it and feel a lot cleaner. My wound also opened as one of the stitches came out, but no infection. I used to pour luke warm water on it after every time I went for a pee. I think that helped keeping it clean. It took about 3 weeks to heal :D

Lavender oil is meant to be good to put in the bath according to my MW.
