On the birth notes of my first son, there was this comment and I never really thought anything about it...but having looked on trusty old google, and double that with the fact my hormones are really making me worry today lol I am not feeling too great about this?? Has anyone had this before?? And is it likely to occur on subsequent pregnancies??

such a little worrier today :( wondering if I should mention to midwife on my appointment? xx

Can I ask what it is (if you know)? I know my mum had placenta problems while carrying me and she's unsure as to what they were lol! Apparently the hospital notes she was given are awful too! She mentioned that it might've been passed to my (hence the question) but so far the midwife has only asked for more info!

Confusing!

From what google said it basically parts of the placenta that have died?? The midwifes explanation today was that basically no one know exactly how long a placenta will last...So as i was full term parts of my placenta had started to die off?? Does that make sense?? I think she put it in simple terms for me lol but thats one of the reasons why they never leave you longer than 42 weeks I think :) xx

That might be it as my mum was saying that her cells in her body were attacking me as I think the placenta started breaking up?? Might have to google that! X

When I had my son they notes very minor infarcts in the placenta but they ddnt consider this the reason we lost him - I think it was because my placenta became hydropic and was large due to edema. That was they first time I'd ever heard of this. They havent mentioned it as a concern for future pregnancies, in fact we were actively encouraged to have another child when if and when we were ready. Is this something they would pick up on an ultrasound? I made sure they looked thoroughly at the placenta at my last scan!

I think they may be able to spot it on placenta if it is bad enough?? I have my sons discharge note in my notes to remind me to ask them!!! :)

So sorry for your loss Laura..xxx

I'm not sure how visible it is on scan as it's something we had to inspect after delivery (yes, I've inspected my share of placenta) and the small amount of decay I've seen was slight shrivelling and it looked more grey than red/purple. That was the placenta of a woman who had smoked quite a bit during her pregnancy :(
