Hi girlies, after speaking with my Hv and gp we are all in agreement Ashton is showing signs of silent reflux and they prescribed me gaviscon. I'm really reluctant to give it to him due to the risk of constipation and causing another problem!! Has anyone used it with success at treating reflux? We tried it with my little girl and it did nothing for her but she had proper full on sick reflux where as he hasn't. He's been sick a few times but nothing compared to her!
I just wondered if it was worth the risk?
Thank you x

My lo had silent reflux, we tried gaviscon for three weeks and it helped slightly but didn't solve the problem fully. It gave him terrible constipation though. We moved on to ranitidine which was much the same (minus the constipation). Eventually prescribed omeprezole which did help. The doctors will advise you try these things in that order but it's up to you. Hope you find something that works xx

We use gaviscon for my little girl. She suffered a bit of constipation to start with but after a week on lactolose she goes regularly now (without lactolose ) but still using gaviscon, for us it's been a lifesaver and it's stopped her reflux. Xxx

My lo was prescribed infant Gaviscon for silent reflux, it's hard to tell whether it worked or not as he suffered from trapped wind and was on the road to constipation when taking it so I stopped giving it to him. I also tried anti reflux milk and found the same problem. After a couple of weeks of trying various things I went back to basics and put him on a normal formula with no medication and he seems more settled again. Silent reflux is so hard to diagnose. I read an article online that said most symptoms aren't reflux anyway and i think in my case that may be true despite the diagnosis. I can't find the link at the moment though! xx

I've just weaned my daughter off gaviscon after her bout of reflux. It worked well for her, but yes she did get constipated, however it was never REALLY bad. She still managed to do one decent poop a day even with the gaviscon. Now that she is off it the poops are definitely much looser.

I was advised on here to offer water to try and mitigate the problem. My HV suggested giving a teaspoon of pure, unsweetened orange juice mixed with three teaspoons of cooled boiled water to ease it all up.

Since I didn't have too many issues I would recommend going forth with the gaviscon - just see how he goes, you can always take him off it again if needs be?

Gavsicon didn't work for us, omeprazole was our saviour!

Weaning didn't help , he threw up food, he didn't outgrow it by 1

And we are now trying to reduce his doseage bit by bit but are under dietician aswell - my son had it bad.

They will unfortunately start with gaviscon. But it's well worth a try.. If it causes issues say it's not working and ask for anti acid like rentidine or omeprazole x
