Induction & Pain Releif

Ok im 40+5 and had 2 failed sweeps so its likely i am going to be induced if baby doesnt come in next few days.

Im worried about being induced as id like him 2 come on his own, but what happens in terms of pain releif when bein induced.

Can you start you pain releif at same time?

Or do you have to wait untill your in a certain amount of pain?

I had an induction with my first and started on gas and air as soon as the contractions started to get intense. When that wasn't enough I had diamorphine and because Blake didn't react well to that I had an epidural when it wore off.

You can ask for pain relief as soon as you want it. The MW will advise you on what might work best, but don't be afraid to demand it!

I was induced, went on the drip had gas and air for around 3 hours but was still only 4cm dilated so had an epidural, he could only put the needle in when I wasn't having a contraction so took a few attempts lol x

Both mine were induced, my first because she was overdue and my second because he was a big baby so they induced him a week early. I was given a pessary in the evening and had mild contractions all night, then encouraged to walk around as they got stronger. I didn't have any pain relief at first until the contractions were stronger then it was gas and air and then pethidine with my first. With my second I opted for an epidural xx

i was induced with my first .. cause she was 14 days late ... i was only 17 and shitting myself .. i asked for a epidual before they even started me off , luck i was 2cm dilated and i just had the drip and waters broken ... but when i went in i was having contractions (showed on monitor ) but didnt feel them ...

The thing you have on your side is that you are overdue which tends to make induction a little easier as baby is ready to come amyway rather than trying to start labour off at a time when you are unfavorable/nowhere near ready so hopefully it migjt mot take much to get you started.
I got induced at 36 weeks and it took everything to get me started, pessaries big sweeps and eventually the drip on high and the pain was awful (this was my 3rd child as well, first two were natural)
You can have pain relief as soon as you need to

I found my MW was really good at having the next step of pain relief ready to go when I needed it, it was amazing. I wanted to do things as naturally as possible, but when I said I wanted an epidural, then anaesthetist was in the room within minutes like she had him waiting outside the door!

Don't feel bad for needing pain relief. I did natural contractions for 2 days, and was okish, but that drip went up and definitely needed something to help! Once the epi was in it was all fine .

I was offered the epidural before they put the drip in. I was only 2-3cm at the time but went for it, and glad I did!

I was in to be induced with mine and I think it shocked by body enough to get him to come so I didn't actually have to end up being induced. As soon as you are in pain they can give you pain relief. Make sure you are assertive and that your birthing partner knows what you want and is assertive for you too so you actually get what you want.

Any news? On average first babies only come at 40+5 so there is still a good chance of going into labour naturally. Personally I'd never agree to be induced before 42 weeks without an actual medical reason. Very few babies wait more than 42 weeks .

I'm 42 weeks on Wednesday with my second baby and I'm waiting to be induced x
