Hey

Anyone any experience of being induced at 37 weeks, is it likely to take longer than if I was induced after 40 weeks or is it just a case of when your body responds to the pessary etc?

xx

No experiance of induction but did you read Lulus induction?
Hopefully you can get some good feedback on better cases from the ladies , you could respond really well x

I was induced at 35 weeks with my first daughter , the induction was straight forward with no problems , i can't comment on if it's a quicker process when your 40 week's as i am always induced and never see 40 weeks x

Have they said they are going to Induce you hun?

I just had my 36 week midwife appt and bump is still 31 1/2 - 32 possibly shrunk a bit , she said that I have to go in if movements reduce n that I'll be more than likely induced too 37-38 weeks but hospital will say Friday . ( I don't really think she can say as just midwife not hospital) but my baby is still breech so more than likely c section.

Will they offer U a c section too? With her being tiny x

I did read Lulu's induction, hopefully will be a bit quicker than hers. Poor Lulu!

They haven't said for definite Jess but the midwife today pretty much said they are just monitoring me until 37 weeks and then will probably induce me but the consultant will confirm next Friday. They haven't mentioned c-section so hoping it will be a normal induction but we'll see xx

I was induced at 38 wks with Harry n it went perfectly. No pessary as already 3cm dilated waters broke n drip up n 4hrs later Harry was here. Had no pain relief felt no contractions n pushed him out in 40 mins. Little tear n hardly ant blood loss. Hope that's eased ur mind a bit that.

I was induced at 37+5 due to PE in last pregnancy, had two pressurises & waters broken & then put on syntochin drip, progressed ok until they had to give me magnesium sulphate due to BP/PE complications, & basically ground to halt after that, ended up in emergency section. Magnesium sulphate is often used to halt labour so not really that surprising that the progression stopped! Hope it works better for you.

I was induced at 40+14 & my son came the day after, it wasn't without a few little dramas though

I might be induced at 37 weeks depending on how my scan next week goes, when I was talking to my midwife about the induction process she said that it can take longer when induced earlier. This is because the cervix is more likely to be more firm and longer so it can take longer for the pessary or gel to work and may possibly need more than one.

I was told that first they'd try a pessary or gel to induce then they'll leave me for up to 6 hours, if I dilate enough (she said around 3cm's) then they'll break my waters. If this doesn't kick start labour, she said quite often it doesn't as the body isn't expecting to labour yet, then they'll transfer me from the induction ward to the delivery ward and put me on a drip and monitor. She did say that the pain will probably hit like a wall and be very severe very quickly, a lot of women say it's more painful being induced than just going into labour naturally - she even said off the bat to consider an epidural as the pain can be that sudden. They aim to get 5 contractions in 10 minutes, each contraction lasting a minute so very frequent and quite long. She did also say that considering an epidural is a good idea because babies induced due to restricted growth are more prone to having drops in heart rate which obviously makes opting for a section or other intervention more likely.

I can only go off of what my midwife has told me/experienced and what friends who have been induced have said, along with how my hospital plan on doing things. From what I can gather it's lots of internals, lots of waiting and lots of sudden pain when it does kick off. All babies are different though and you could find that actually your body and cervix is ready to labour at 37 weeks. x

My induction was terribly slow. I really think it depends on your body hun, there's no way of giving you a straight answer. All they know is, inductions are more likely to fail at 37 weeks than they are that 41/42 weeks. The pessaries didn't work for me at all and the drip took a long time to kick in, but as you can see, for some ladies it did work xx

I was just over 42 weeks when my son was born & it didnt work first attempt as the pessary did nothing for me i didn't have a second as then thats when the drama began even though my cervix was so far back she did eventually manage to break my waters & i went onto the drip. I guess it depends on your body & your baby really as mine didnt want to come out lol so it doesnt matter if your induced early or 2 weeks after as i was term+15 with mine. When i did eventually get to the pushing stage i was told not to as i was only 2cm & would need to reserve my energy as i would be a lot longer yet! Turns out i had gone from 2-10cm in just under an hour & that i could push sadly by that point the contractions had eased off slightly & felt like they had stopped! The drip though does work v well though the pessary didn't for me but i also wonder if that has anything to do with cervix position

Must be different in different areas but after i had mine i was told i may be able to go home as i had asked if i could as i really still wanted to go to the birth unit. I had to wait to get the say that it was ok to go from a consultant & whilst waiting i went off the ward to grab a drink! I wasn't allowed to go home sadly & in hindsight now i am so glad that i hadn't with it all kicking off that night i did feel like i would be in for days like i was advised! I was told that they didn't know how long it would take for the induction to work, that i could be in for days & it was a matter of a waiting game! I was surprised they were going to let me keep going over the 2 weeks but they weren't bothered about the fact i was over by 2 weeks they were going to let me wait it out so no mention of a c-section! I was lucky though that from around 11pm that evening till my son was born i constantly had someone with me at all times & if she had to go out another mw would come in i was never alone from that point & at certain times i had a room full of people. But i did have an amazing birth experience!

My waters went at 36+6 but nothing happened. I was induced after 2 days and it took 18 hours as I didn't progress very fast. The ramped up the drip to try and speed it up and they give the epi as standard when you have the drip as it doesn't give your body time to adjust. Was all fine though! X

Hey Hun, thought I'd comment here as I recently was induced at 37+5 and it took about 7 sweeps in the hospital over a course of Tuesday to Wednesday and then my body got going after the pessarymwas inserted at 3pm Wednesday and by early hours Thursday mornings approx 10 hours post pessary, I started to contract. By 7am I was 5cm and my waters where then ruptured and I was in established for 5 hours (from prom to birth). So all in all 2 days of getting it going but with no pain factor or true contractions to 5 hours of established labour. My first labour was an induction at 40+5 as waters went but no contractions so from srom to active labour, it took about 3 days of hellish contractions. My second labour which was all pretty much natural baring a pessary which fell out, I naturally laboured and the pain was not even intolerable. My first was worst, my second was fine xx

Hi sezzy! Just thought I would update you, ended up in hospital with reduced movement , they brought scan forward by one day and baby is ok but no fluid left ( just over one cm all around) they think it's due to her being small or not getting enough she's taking in her fluid but not recycling it... So hopefully gaining more weight!!

I won't have my next growth scan now, hospital every day for trace monitoring , had first dose of steroids, second lot tomorrow. As it stands if she stays as she is , she is arriving by c section next Wednesday 29th, at 37+1( tues was full for sections) earlier is any results drop.....

I'm excited but nervous , they said she may need special care as measuring what a 33 week baby is ( except for her head) but the scans aren't overly accurate so it's waiting and seeing!

Isn't to scare u, just to keep u in the picture as we are in the same position.

C section as she's breech and too small for labour with the low fluid too dangerous for cord compression?? First time mum all went over my head!!!

When is your scan Hun? Xxxx
