Increasing meals

Guest
Damien has 5 bottles and 2-3 meals a day, this has been for a while now. Do you think it's okie to drop the late night bottle and increase the day time meals to 2 jars? or should I work on one day at a time? Do I just cut it out or do I do one day with, one without, one with, etc, for a while? He has been weaned very slowly I know, but the hospital trips, etc have set us right back

Honey, with the probs you are having just now with damien unless you think its affecting him then just take it as slow as you want.

When you say 2 jars do you mean two jars of dinner at once or a dinner jar followed by a pudding jar.

Forgive me, im a bit dense just now (hormones)

LOL! I mean a jar of dinner then a jar of pudding  so that eventually his meals are
Morning - bottle
Lunch - veg jar and then fruit jar, milk bottle, juice
Afternoon - Same as above
Evening - Breakfast type meal and formula bottle before bed!

Ah ha! That sounds a good schedule. I was always more of a breakfast person, if it went tits up during the day I reassured myself that she had had a breakfast. I used the farley packet bfasts with her formula.
I dont know of any job where such prescise planning is required just to get through a day

LOL. I don't do breakfast, my brain is just so not in gear ATALL when I first get up it's just not gonna happen lol! Not for a while anyway.

With the packet stuff, I've been mixing it with water because his milk is so thick it makes it like jelly, is this okie?

What do the instructions say? Cos some use water and some use milk.

I'd say stick to the ones that are supposed to be mixed with water and he'll be fine :)

I accidently put water in one that was meant to have milk and it tasted foul. The water ones have all the stuff as if it's got formula in anyway.

I asked the HV about this the other day I told her our routine which is;

morning, bottle and breckfast
lunch, bottle and fruit pot
Dinner, bottle and veggies
bedtime, bottle.

I asked if I should reduce the bottles and increase the food, but she said Im doing fine just to increase the food and keep the bottles as they are. this confused me a bit though becuase I thought that was the point of weaning  I think at this age though they still need alot of formula.
Ella doesnt have a dinenr and dessert but I will start doing this soon when she starts eating more.

Damien has juice throughtout the day instead of substituted milk now, is that right?

Sami, I'm not hijacking your post but I'm still only giving Rebecca half jars-ie half jar at lunch, half jar for dinner, followed by half jar of pud...She is 20 weeks should she be on full jars? I don't want her getting any chubbier she is already 17.5lbs

Sami, after 6 months don't they only need 700ml of milk a day? so I thot juice is fine throughout the day as long as he takes what he needs! That's what my friend does with her lo.

I have no idea about milk intake, Damien was 6 weeks prem yet is well over 17lb now at 6 months! He's not small but I get so much conflicting advice on how to feed him from the stupid docs, so i thought id ask mums coz thedy know best!!! He is a chubster and loves his food :D

He is thriving hun, you should be proud of yourself. That is a fab weight for being prem.

Thank you, he is amazing everyone , dispite his reflux and prematurity, this kid LOVES his food and milk!

Lol a bit like my Rebecca- she is amazing apart from her reflux, flat head, bad temper, no sleeping and eating for Scotland!

Reflux is a b*stard tho!

God, they dont all get mixed with milk do they :wall: It was that long ago i forgot that.
Dont worry about him eating too much, it will even itself out eventually. I was told that and by a year and a half jess was 2 stone and I thought I was making a pigs ear out of it but she hasnt put much more weight on since then and her eating has cut right back by her own choice.

Sami, lol, breakfast is what comes before jeremy kyle,

Hi Sami!!!

Thomas is not a premature baby and does not eat or drink as much as Damian  He has 3 ounces of milk in the morning so i give him breakfast using at least 3 ounces to make his intake of 6 ounces in the morning. then he has a bottle and an hour later he has lunch which is veg and fruit ( I do not give him jars but i know it is less than this in quantity) then he has a bottle and an hour later same thing as for dinner and then it is bottle. they need to have at least 560 ml a day which is roughly 18 ounces on top of their food. So after that give him juice if he likes it :) there is still no way for thomas to drink anything but his milk :(

So Damian is doing great for a premature baby, i have read your other posts and thomas does not roll either  I think mine is just a lazy baby

Hi Sami

i found that if alex would take a bit more then i'd give him a bit more and so we gradually upped his food that way. i just made a larger and larger portions of his veggies.

he now has:

boob first thing

8.30 breakfast (readybrek with either a bit of fruit pot in it or some lumps of banana or strawberry- made with about 2-3 ozs of formula or full fat cows milk)

12 lunch - veggies and fruit pot followed by 4 ozs milk

3.30 7oz bottle

6pm dinner veggies and fruit pot

7pm 8-9oz bottle

he then goes down at 7.30 till 6/7ish

he has water throughout the day and we have just started finger foods like rice cakes which i will give him in between meals at the mo as he just gets annoyed with them if he's hungry!

got to introduce some meat now!

xxx

Sami it's fine to give him juice, the box of milk should tell you how much is threcommended amount for what age, Abi is now supposed to be getting 1 pint a day but sometimes she has more and sometimes less, as for the food be guided by Damien he'll eat as much as he wants, my HV in Oz asked if Abi was eating all i was giving her when i said yes she told me to increase it Abi now has cereal for breakfast, sometimes baby stuff other times weetabix, she has lunch followed by a yoghurt, tea jar followed by either yoghurt or rice pudding or fruit and before bed she has rusks or cereal again, inbetween all this she has milk and juice now and again she'll have a snack between lunch and tea too, you can also use some full fat cows milk now for either drinks or cereal as long as he is still getting recommended amount of baby milk :)
