Our fertility referral is 1st December. And I just want it to be here now :(
I just want to know what will happen, if we will be offered IUI or IVF.
I'm scared in case they do a internal scan. I dont know what to expect. But I will go prepared. 'Cough' aha!

What happened at your first app?
I am seeing*Gynaecology - Reproductive Medicine at Centre For Life in Newcastle Upon Tyne.

Hi hun. 1st Dec will come around really quickly.

As far as I can remember, our first meeting was just a discussion about possible treatment plans and next steps (any tests we needed to have done etc). We had already had most tests done through our GP and a previous gynae referral so that reduced the tests!

I think we did end up having an internal scan but the nurse was very reluctant to do it - you may have to book. It is nothing to worry about though. Your legs are spread wide, they put a camera up you with a condom and some gel on. It doesn't hurt but can be a tiny bit uncomfortable, depending on where she is poking around. I have had loads and never needed any painkillers. Xx

As Phoenixgirl said it'll be here before you know it. Easier said than done but if you can try to take your mind of it for now. I had the internal done and it was fine, didn't feel any pain and it was a student dr so he was in there for about half an hour!

Thank you Girls.
Did this happen at your first app?
I kust dont know what to expect. If it will just be a talk or tests?
Also, do yous find out your chances of treatment at the appointment?

Hi,well I only had the internal to confirm PCOS as they couldn't find my ovaries from a sonogram. I haven't been referred yet as we 'haven't been trying long enough' grrr. My friend who also has PCOS was referred for ovarian drilling as the 1st step before being put on clomid from her 1st app. Oh, and they tested her husband to rule out any probs with him.

At our first appointment, we discussed our history and any problems that we knew of etc. We had already had some tests done as I'd been toing and froing to my GP and the gynaecology dept for some time beforehand. He then said what further tests we needed and arranged for them to be done (I think I had a scan there and then, plus arranged for other tests to rule out problems). He said we could have IUI then go to IVF or go straight to IVF, it was up to us - but as we were relatively young, we might as well have the IUI first. Hope this helps a bit. :-) xx

Hiya, at our first appointment we had to do a load of paperwork, height, weight, discuss ttc and how long, diet etc. I had already had bloods and ultrasound. I was booked in for another more detailed ultrasound, a hsg and my oh was booked in for his tests. That was all at the first appointment.

Next appointment was after all the tests and that is the one we discussed treatment at. As I have pcos and my oh has no issues with his sperm our first treatment is clomid. I don't know if that will be an option for you though. Are you using a known donor? Sorry if you have said already I couldn't see anywhere on this post but could have missed it. If so clomid could work for you too? Otherwise IUI could be a good option for you. It isn't being offered to us though, if clomid doesn't work we have to go to IVF.
