Right oh was made redundant. So now we have no money coming in at all... just have his redundancy.

What I need to know is what can we claim for. Hes looking for a job so also how many hours can he work or is it how much he earns b4 what we claim for will be affected?? Also how much savings are we allowed etc etc any help would be great :)

im lost to all this and just dont know where to start. Thanks girls xxx

i'm pretty sure 16 hours a week is the limit he can work and £6000 is the savings limit before your benefits are taken away.
you'll be able to claim income support, and housing benefit if you're renting a property. maybe also some tax credits, but i'm not sure.

Mrs B don't forget the Sure Start grant if he gets Income Support or Income based Jobseekers Allowance. You can apply from 11 weeks before your due date, so we're just counting the days. You get the form from the DWP.
Sure Start

You'll also get the Healthy Start vouchers which is £2.80 a week for milk and fruit for you and the little one. Your MW should have the Healthy Start form.
Healthy Start

There are other criteria that may apply to you too for both of these.

There's also the maternity grant thingy that I can't find the link for.... going to look for it ..... brb ;)

Found it.. Search function FTW!!! :D

Health in Pregnancy Grant

You can get the grant if all of the following apply:

you are 25 weeks pregnant or more
your expected date of delivery is on or after 6 April 2009
you have been given health advice from a midwife or doctor

Not sure if there is anything else we can claim, I'd be grateful too if anyone knows.

   It feels like a minefield doesn't it xxxxxx

too right its a bloody minefield..... I just dont have a clue where to start

Thanks for the info so far. I cant claim for that healthy eating grant cause wee man is due the 5th of april and its gotta be after the 6th.... Typical eh!!

You are actually allowed to have savings of upto £16,000!!

Your OH can claim job seekers allowance, until he gets a job, if you were working in the last 6 months then you can also claim maternity allowance after you are 29 weeks........until that point you can claim Job Seekers Allowance too.

Tax credits are payable until your salaries are over £65,000......then you get nothing - but baby has to be born before you are entitled - its a sliding scale depending on salary details!

Income support is payable to single people, who cannot work!

The best thing to do is to call the DWP Benefits Helpline on: 0800 0 55 66 88

Hope that helps hun - I only know all this as when we got back from France I wanted to see what we were entitled too until DH got a job.......we were able to get Jobseekers Allowance for about a month, then DH got a job and now we cannot claim anything!
