Hi ladies

Harry hasn't done a poo since friday he did one at 11.30 on friday night and he hasn't done one since he's still feeding fine and having 8+ wet nappies a day so he's obviously eating well but the hv said he should be doing one after every feed. If he hasn't done one by tonight I'm going to ring the midwife in the morning and get them to come out tomorrow or should I ring the hospital?

Harry hasnt done one since fri night, babies tend to either go every time they feed or every few days, depends on the baby!! If he is in discomfort then obviously go to hospital!!

Talk to your midwife, but he's probably ok. K only poos every 3 or 4 days. Worried us at first but the doc said its common and completely normal. When she goes its massive though lol! Hope your lo is ok! Xx

I'll ring the midwife tomorrow but he seems fine he isn't farting as much as normal but he seems fine in himself he was doing at least 1 a day then friday he did 4 in on day and then nothing since

i got told by the bf group ppl that its not uncommon for breastfed babies to only go every few days

When my lo was newborn, my mw told me that they wouldn't do anything unless he'd not had a poo for a week
or more.
Have you tried giving your lo a bit of cooled boiled water? That can sometimes help. I wouldn't worry too much if your baby isn't showing any signs of discomfort.

Thanks ladies I just worry because he was really regular and then nothing! Suppose it's quite common if he shows signs of discomfort I'll ring miwdife

I would speak to your midwife to put your mind at rest, but this is completely normal for breast fed babies. Colby would sometimes go after every feed and then not go for a few days. Its because breast milk is so easy to digest that they pretty much take everything they need from it and there isn't always a lot left over to poo out iykwim. As long as he has plenty of wet nappies then that's good.

With regards to the cooled boiled water, you could try it but he doesn't need water with bf and if you are exclusively bf it may confuse him if you give it in a bottle because he is so young. Normally it's best to wait until bf has been going for a few weeks (4-6 weeks) before trying a bottle so that there isn't nipple confusion (although this doesnt happen with every baby). But if you want to try water you could use a syringe. I would just keep feeding and he will probably go in the next couple of days.

Congratulations btw :)

It's probably completely normal hun! Mine sometimes wouldnt pop for 4-5 days! In fact, Es still the same
Now! If he starts seeming uncomfortable then give them a ring, but like someone said before (didn't read who, sorry :flower:) breast milk is a lot more easily digested, so there isn't much waste! Tbh, I don't yhink either f mine have pooed after every feed!

Thanks ladies, who knew being a parent could worry us so much

B still only poos once every other day or every 2 days. Was told can be normal. I know it's frustrating though. As long as they don't look uncomfortable. You could try an oz of cooled boiled water inbetween feeds.x

Sometime I give Angels tummy a gentle rub or move her legs in a cycling action, usually does the trick x
