If this baby is on time, it will be nameless!

So, baby is due tomorrow and name choices have been pretty fluid throughout as I seem to like a name and then go off it. OH is a bit rubbish at coming up with names, yet always finds a problem with names I come up with. Rhyming them with random crap is his favourite.

Middle name will be John, if it is a boy, and Elizabeth if it is a girl. Surname is Kirton.

So here's the not so short list, I think I need some unbiased and even brutal opinions so I can fight my corner later.

Girls

Orla Elizabeth (my first choice, OH input - 'all or nothing')
Elsie Elizabeth (OH choice, I don't mind it, but I don't love it)
Saoirse Elizabeth (my choice, OH says that no one will know how to pronounce it, surely you tell them once and that's that)
Isla Elizabeth (OH choice, I know loads, he doesn't see an issue with that)

Boys

Ted John (OH choice, it's OK, I'm not bowled over by it and think it is becoming quite popular)
Otto John (My first choice, OH is just saying no yet likes the name Opie which I've said no to, as it is a bit out there)
Chester John (OH choice, I just think doggy name and my friend mentioned it rhymed with molester...)
Seb(astian) John (I like Sebastian but OH only likes Seb, all though he said no from day one and has suddenly done a U-turn)

Sorry for the ramble, I just worry one of us is going to have to compromise quite a bit.

I love the name Elsie but my OH doesn't :( I also like Ted x

I also love Elsie, really pretty! All your girls names are really lovely but that is my fave

I do agree with your OH generally about names that are hard to pronounce/spell as she/he will be doing this all the time for the rest of their life when meeting someone new, on the phone etc

I think Sebastian is my fav out of the boys names. x

Good luck!

Def go with Orla Elizabeth. Very very pretty combination. Elsie and Isla are too similar to Elizabeth. I dont like the name Saoirse, as lovely as it sounds - it can be a buggar for people to spell. I think it sounds nice but doesnt look nice, if that makes sense?

I like the name Sebastian which could be Seb or Sebbie. I think it suits babies, toddlers, children and adults. It's a strong name.

Good luck with your choices. You will get there :)

Does your OH watch sons of anarchy by any chance? :)

I love the name Orla, and either Ted or Sebastian are personal favs from the boys list x

Thank you everyone.
I think he's coming around to Orla after discussing it with friends tonight.
He's also warming to Sebastian as a full name and then the use of Seb as a nickname. :)

Madsticks - we both love Sons of Anarchy ha! That's where Otto and Opie came from. I just felt Otto was more of a 'real' name. :D x

I love the Chester combo. Has such a nice rhythm to it with your surname, and not too popular.

Agree with similarities of Elsie and Isla to Elizabeth, and Saorsia ( have I spelt it right?) Is too hard to spell and guess the pronunciation!

Have you thought about Alana or Ilana? Goes nicely with middle and surname.
Orla reminds me of a Big Brother contestant of that name.

The BB reference is what Mark always goes on about!!!! I have no idea who she is! :D

We have an Alana in the family already. I guess I should let Saoirse go, it pains me as I love how it sounds.

I did like Chester, then someone told me about a comic strip called...Chester the Molester. Nice huh. X

Your name choices are lovely :) I love Elsie, it's on my girls list, but as far as I know it's a diminutive of Elisabeth/Elizabeth so it seems a bit of a funny choice to put them together. I love Orla Elizabeth together.

Sebastian was our second choice with our son Caleb. I still love it but I'm one of those weird people won't reuse name ideas so it's off the table if this is another boy! I love Seb as a nickname, and Bas as well.

Love Otto as well, it goes really nicely with John. I want to put it on my boys list this time but a) my OH will hate it, I know that without mentioning it to him (he hates "posh names" especially my first choice of Reuben and said it's pretentious) and b) I worry about people missing the "tt" and saying it with a glottal stop!

I think I'm going to weep if it's a girl and he won't let me call her Orla Elizabeth, maybe after labour he'll be feeling generous.
I'd not thought about the Otto thing, now you mention it, it is making me cringe. Especially as we are in the Midlands(ish) where Ts get dropped!

I think Sebastian is looking likely as it is the one we both agree on. Baby isn't showing any signs of coming, so we have a few more days I reckon. (Hopefully not too many though!)

Thank you for the input. xx

I've seen it spelled Sorcha, which is much more straightforward and still sounds lovely xx

where i come from Sorcha is a very harsh sounding name, pronounced Sor-Ka
whereas Saoirse is more of a softer sound, pronounced Sear-sha

Sear-sha would be how I would pronounce it. This is what OH has an issue with, sometimes he can't say it ha!!

Don't forget there's a whole cast list of SOA based names to choose from! ;-)

I loved the name Jackson (or Jaxon) before I became a fan, then I loved it even more after watching! But now it's become quite popular in a dhort space of time and I'm one for not liking the idea of too many children in the same class at school having the same name. (We had 4 Matthews, 3 boy Ashleys 1 girl Ashley, 2 Sophies, 2 Kellys, 2 katies in my class at school and it did get confusing at times!)

I do like all of your name choices. Any sign of little one turning up soon? X

My friend has a Jaxson and I teach a Jackson (all though he's 14 so it is unusual in his age range)!
We want something different without being too out there. Sebastian is the only one on both our lists.
Little one is still firmly ensconsed in my womb with no signs of making an appearance. At the mw Thursday and will get my induction date. Hopefully he (I'm convinced with all this waiting it has to be a boy) will surprise us before next week!
