I phoned the dog warden because a dog in our area has been injured the last few days...possible broken limb and has blood over its body. I don't know who owns it but it's regularly around the area. It's a greyhound and has lovely tiger markings.

I petted it today and it's quite friendly. It can't put any weight on its front paw so I think its broken as its been hobbling about. Sadly if it had an owner, they haven't bothered themselves to get it any vetenary help.

So the dog warden said they'll come out and I'm now feeling so bad in case the poor little dog gets put down :( I can't see it about now, but it wonders off all the time around the area.

I did the right thing though didn't I? Please tell me I did as I'm close to tears here and can't stop worrying. The wee doggy had to be in pain AND I noticed when close to it that it's ribs are protruding :(

Why on earths name can animal lovers be so damn cruel

Thanks hun. I wish I was rich enough to take all the wee uncared for animals in. It breaks my heart to see them running about at all hours and especially when they're hurt.

Aww Hun you definitely did the right thing!
There's a farm by me that has an animal sanctuary and they take in all the stays, make them better, train them etc and then rehome them, if nobody takes them then they stay on the farm till they go to doggy heaven naturally. Everywhere should have a place like this <3
Don't feel guilty about phoning them, at least the poor mite will get the treatment it needs x

Love, Jugs x

You did do the right thing. No animal lover would treat an animal in that way.

Ultimately, in the UK right now rescue organisations are stretched to their limits, I know from the ones I know of that they're even struggling to find foster placements for dogs with rescue backup. It's very tough out there and unfortunately some dogs will be PTS. However that is far more humane and loving than leaving them to run feral or to have them in very space limited cages.

U 100% did the right thing hun , that poor dog has prob been in so much pain , hopefully if it's injures are treatable the dog will be rehomed x

Thanks ladies.

Well I needn't have blooming worried about the dog warden coming out yesterday as I seen the wee dog last night again roaming the streets! Arghhhhhhh!

The only good thing was that it was putting weight on the leg/paw that I assumed was broken. I still feel like I should be doing something...As much as I would love to I can't take it in as I have two doggies of my own to care for.

It makes me really sad that some people get animals when they're all cute and cuddly and the minute they grow up from the puppy stage they throw them out onto the streets to fend for themselves :(

Have you phoned the RSPCA? Xx poor dog! You def did the right thing phoning the dog warden even though it appears they've done nothing!

Thanks ladies.

What area are you in? I have a lot of contacts with rescues over the country do may be able to help.

Awww poor thing. I would ring again and ask what's going on and that the poor thing is still not being cared for x

Oh my! I feel like such a douche!

Happened to be standing in kitchen talking to my OH and I see the mentioned doggie RUNNING past! No sign of any soreness and I said to my OH "OMG! Look! That wee doggie can run!"

And he says "Oh yeah, this morning when I was walking our two dogs I was talking to the teenager kids who it hangs around with sometimes and they said that a mural was being painted and the guy who was painting it had laid newspapers down and it had red paint on them...the teenagers along with the dog were hanging around to see what was being painted...the painter puts the newspapers with red paint on them to one side and the dog decides to lie down on them...and the dog hurt its paw jumping over its owners fence!"

One of the teenager's parents own the dog and my OH said they were feeding it sarnies and just dandering around and the dog was fine!

I think I totally jumped the gun with this one! So the red paint would explain the "blood". At one point I did think it looked a bit washed out to be blood but given the circumstances with it not putting pressure on its front end I thought it mst be blood! As for the ribs protruding...well my two are chunky monkeys so I guess I jumped to the wrong conclusion there too!

I'm going to have to ring the dog warden again to say that I got it wrong!

Oh what a douche! I was nearly crying and all  I'm sooooo flipping relieved that the dog is ok though! I just hope it doesn't get picked up by the dog warden! That'll teach me to wait before I go poking my neb in!

If you can see the ribs it's too thin and needs checking out - should also never wander around alone!

You should be able to FEEL the ribs but not see them.

Unfortunatly greyhounds and staffies were the most breeds we got in the rescue I worked at for a while. A lot of the greyhounds just get dumped after racing career end or families take them on without realising they need house training etc and whilst need to be lean, still shouldn't see the ribs.

Actually if it is a greyhound it is perfectly normal to be able to see the ribs.

The owners still shouldn't be leaving it loose, that's how accidents happen. My neighbour continually allowed their dog to wander despite me taking it home several times, it stopped once I took the dog to the local dog warden and they had to pay to get him back!!
