Hi everyone
My Mum bought me a home testing kit for hypothyroidism which I tested positive for. I'm 27 weeks and now terrified this will cause developmental delay. Has anyone else experienced this?
And should I follow up with my GP or with my midwife?
Thanks :)

hi what kind of test is that its normally done with a blood test ?

ok I have a underactive thryiod and during pregnacy have my bloods checked every few weeks best thing to do is talk to your gp ASAP xx

If damage is done its in tri 1
Chances are its fine as youre still pregnant
Get a bloodtest booked with your gp for your TSH
Youll get put on meds from there x

You definitely need to see a doctor, they will then put you on levothyroxine. You will most likely be given a consultant who after a few weeks will check your levels again. In pregnancy they like you to take a slightly higher dose. Try not to worry, see your doctor and also ask for a reassurance scan as well. X

I'm not sure that a home test can tell you more than it is a good idea to get checked out. Medication isnt always needed. Testing for underactve thyroid is pretty complex because it involves interaction between several hormones. They usually start with a simple blood test and if it doesnt seem normal it is a red flag to do more testing but it takes more than one test to get the full picture. I tested as slightly low in pregnancy and was told nothing needed to be done and it should return to normal on its own after the baby was born.

I've never had more tests done other than my Thyroid Stimulating Hormone
Many GPs dont fully understand the thyroid and its interactions sadly

If your on facebook... Look up hypothyroid mom
Its a group x
