Hello :)

I am currently looking into hypnobirthing because the NCT sent me a leaflet about it this weekend. I would love to know if anyone has tried it and whether it is any good, or is just a load of hippy nonsense and I should opt for maximum drugs!! :rotfl:

I think redshoes did hypnobirthing - I could be wrong though

I didn't do it, but did my own style. I got through labour with no drugs but just kinda went into myself and chanted in my head etc. I reckon it would work if you believed in it and followed it - youhave to really want to do it though or it won't work.

i've done the course and it was amazing.

I'm hoping it will help. Its definately made me more relaxed about the whole thing.
Also I can now hold an ice cube and think of something else for one minute (the ice cube for a min excercise is meant to symbolise a contraction :rotfl: )

I was not sure about it but my sister made me go and i'm so pleased I did!

You can just buy the book and cd and see how you get on. They really help but the course is fab!

I didn't do the course but bought the book and found it really interesting - it emphasised how natural labour and birth is and stopped me worrying so much about the birth. The exercises were really useful - I practised the breathing techniques during pregnancy to help me sleep , and during the earlier contractions to help with the pain. It is something you have to embrace though or I don't think it will work so well - next time around I'd be interested in doing the course. :D

Ditto - my experience was similar (full story in my birth story)

I have been researching it a little more today and have sent off for some more details. I am quite keen as I have recieved hypnotherapy before and it was very effective.

It has been very encouraging to read people's experiences too, it sounds as though it can only be a good thing.

i was interested in it but it seemed too expensive i couldnt afford it.

i kno redshoes did it she said she got to 7cm with hardly any pain so it must be worth something!

for anyone that wants to do it and can't afford it, some clinics offer subsidised places :D

:cheer: YES!! YES!! YES!! :cheer:
If anyone gets the opportunity, take time to take part in a Hypnobirthing course :D It's not hippy at all, its surprisingly factual and honest and teaches you about your body, it gives you strength to trust your body, your baby. The book is fantastic but the course gives you opportunity to meet other families and share the experience which in turn outs all those inner concerns, issues, stopping you from simply enjoying your pregnancy, looking forward to birth

When I admitted myself to hospital the MW's didn't believe I was as far as I was, because of my silent and calm contractions. They were shocked to find me 7cm dilated, personally I just thought everyone got to 7cm dilated without feeling intense discomfort, I didn't expect them to hurt, I knew what my uterus was doing and breathed with it through the sensations of hot and cold, they were more interesting, exciting, but that's just a simple breathing and belief technique that helped me do that, as well as support from my OH, nothing hippy.

I wish I could say I birthed Isaac drug free and fear free but unfortunately Isaac's birth ended with forceps and an episiotimy, and the fear of a possible c-section was quite stressful at the time. However, it wasn't until a while after the upset of that, that I saw how strong we were and how Hypnobirthing got us through a very long (86hr labour), and somewhat upsetting near end.

The relaxation CD is a godsend for getting to sleep quickly too

*EDIT* I just wanted to add that hypnobirthing is as much for you throughtout your pregnancy and after the birth, as it is for the birth. Its about knowing birth is natural, though nature is unpredictable so to be open too
I could talk about it for hours but don't want to witter too much, if anyone wants to PM me they are most welcome to
