How reliable are 16 week gender scans?

I may be in denial but just worried they have got the gender wrong. We have no girls in our family so I'm finding it hard to believe that this is a girl lol x

Morning,

I had mine at 16 weeks and it is a boy as I predicted (I don't think I can carry girls) yet I am one of 4 girls and all my family have girls so I am the only one with a boy already who is 11 and another boy on the way! I was convinced first time round it would be a girl as we are all girls but I broke the mould and ha d a boy to be different ha! I believe they are fairly accurate the scans though but you can always ask again at your 20 weeks scan, we did and it was confirmed again it was a boy (as I say I knew it was as I don't think I can carry girls anyway)!

Good luck with the pregnancy :) x

I didn't think I'd have a girl because my husband has four brothers, my brother has three sons and I have two sons but at my scan on Friday the lady said I was having a girl. Really hope it's right. GOt my 20 week scan on 20th July, seems ages away though lol x

Yeah as I say, I am one of 4 girls, my partner had two sisters who had 2 girls each, one of my sisters has 2 girls, all my cousins are female so was a bit of a shock to have a boy first time round as I was convinced it was a girl, but since having him I have had two miscarriages and both of them I was really poorly with morning sickness etc which was a complete different to carrying my son as other than a bump I had no symptoms (other than very sore boobs), so I am convinced that both my miscarriages were girls. Am pregnant again, 25 weeks and having another boy and I knew I was as again no morning sickness just the bump :) x

I've had 16 week scans with all my babies - they were totally correct about my first two. My little girl quite clearly had nothing between her legs in one of the shots so I was convinced and my little boy quite clearly had boy bits. I was hoping for a girl this time and it's a boy and somehow a tiny bit of me is still wondering if they could be wrong. I just didn't see such an obvious 'boy bit' on the scan although my OH says he did and then at the 20 week scan I asked the sonographer if she agreed and she said something along the lines of 'yes I suppose it probably is a boy' which just made me wonder if there was bit of doubt there.

Anyway from people asking on here before I think the general consensus is that if they tell you boy it's fairl unlikely they'll be wrong and it turns out to be a girl but if they say girl there is slightly higher chance of it being a mistake and turning out to be a boy. But in either case I don't think it happens that often x

I had mine at 16+6, they said girl. I've got my 20 (I'll be 20+6) week scan on Saturday so we'll see if they were right!

We had ours at just passed 16 weeks when pregnant with DD. There was never a doubt just a bit of a surprise as it is mostly boys in our family :) x

I had no sickness with my two boys and this pregnancy I have been ill from 5-15 weeks. The sickness has been terrible, so I agree with your theory. I kind of thought I was having a girl because of how ill I have been. Thankfully I'm starting to feel more human. Sorry to here about your miscarriages x

I had mine at exactly 16 weeks and it was clearly a boy , confirmed later on my 20 weeks scan :D I believe with girls might be a bit tricky but anyways I think 99% they are accurate.

I had mine last week when I was week 14. Never thought that I will know the gender so early! My ob pointed out at the ultrasound said its a boy.
Hope its really accurate.

I'm wondering this too, I had anearky scan at 15+5 and she said girl but I could see it clearly, I actually couldn't make out anything but this pregnancy is so different I was sure it would be a boy 20 week scan on the 2nd July so will double check

My friend found out she was having a boy at 15 week (very late dating scan). Totally possible to be correct then.

With my first I found out he was a boy at 20w and it was very obvious to the point we actually noticed before tech told us.

Second boy I got a 16w scan and was adamant it was a girl but was told boy. Couldn't see any boy bits... but he was a boy!

I think there obviously have been cases someone has picked some hing up wrong but totally possible to be correct at this stage too. I've read if a girl part is totally visable then usually harder to confuse with the boy parts because it's 3 lines but obviously sometimes if a girl is laying a certain way with a cord that could also maybe be picked up.

If scanner got a potty shot look then good chance it's a girl! If not get another scan another excuse to see baby lol xxx

I had my 20 week scan yesterday, we asked her to tell us the sex (without mentioning what we'd already been told) and she also said girl!
