Hi my girly is nearly 6months old & we're thinking ahead to baby no.2 & hope to ttc when she turns one. Was just wondering how long after a c section can you have another baby? Is there any restriction on amount of time? Just curious as it never crossed my mind till now that my previous section could affect timings :(

Hi! I was told to wait at least a year before trying again. My GP said it was due to the risk of the scar being too weak to stay closed throughout the pregnancy :s My midwife told me the other reason was because the sooner you get pregnant after a section the more likely it is you'll need a section for the second.

I was told by my GP to wait at least 6 months before TTC. In my discharge paperwork from the hospital (second time round, so no use to me!) it said you should wait at least 2 years! We have a 21 month gap between ours and although I had a second c-section, it had nothing to do with the scar, which remained fine throughout my second pregnancy. TBH, it looks a bit low down to be seriously affected by growth during pregnancy. I always thought the risk was of rupture to the scar during a subsequent labour (which is still a tiny risk at around 1%).

i have been wondering this too as i am hoping to start trying again when max is one in november but scared of it causing any problems xxx

I was told you need to have at least 18 months between sections. My babies will be 19 months a part when I deliver this week and I've had no complications during this pregnancy.
