i thought i'd really enjoy perinneal massage (a great excuse to have mine or my boyf's hands in my pants hehe!) but its not fun really. i cant reach over my bump with both hands so cant do it myself anyway, and i wanna do it properly so even my boyf doing it its a bit practical and almost clinical! (and a bit uncomfortable coz he really stretches puts both thumbs in and pulls as far apart as he can!) oh i hope it works and i dont get ripped apart!

i done it once but i found it really uncomfortable to. it is supposed to work my midwife swore by it.

this sounds awful but is there a technique?
yeah put both thumbs in and stretch the walls and edges (like in a U-shape) i use special oil i bought online but i think u can use olive oil

I've never heard of this before last week when I read it in a pregnancy magazine. It IS supposed to work but does sound a bit painful.

I kept meaning to do it throughout my 1st preg, but as my OH was away and like you I couldn't reach I didn't do it. I know ppl who swear by it, and it is probs best to do it every now and then just in case, but I didn't tear my perineum having Eloise. You just have to listen to the MW's telling you when to push and when to pant when your delivering the head.

I was thinking about doing this but theres no way I can reach down there at the moment! Especially not with 2 hands! :rotfl:

I'm just going to wing it and hope for the best! They also say that good pelvic floor control can help prevent tearing.

i've never done it, its somethin i have only heard about recently, but i think mrsT is right in saying the best thing to do is listen to the midwife when she says push and when she says pant whilst deliverin the head, has so far worked for me, had no tears stitches or anythin :)

It is recommended to help prevent tearing during birth, but its not guaranteed. I was advised to start from about week 36, as for it hurting, well pregnancy isn't for the faint hearted and as I do think about tearing, its definitely one massage I'll be doing :D
