How important is milk after one year old?

Hi, I was hoping for a bit of advice on giving milk after one year. My lo has just turned one and she eats well, she usually has porridge or weetabix with cows milk for breakfast, plenty of yogurts, cheese and things like that, and eats her lunch and dinner well, but she isn't keen on having milk in the morning or evening. I've switched her to cows milk now and she had some the other evening from a bottle but now I give it to her in a sippy beaker and she isn't interested.

I guess I could put her back on bottles or try mixing with formula milk again, but I just wondered how important it is, like if she's having milk every morning with breakfast and plenty of other dairy products during the day then does it really matter if she doesn't drink milk before bed? She has abidec vitamins every day, I'm just not sure of what she might be missing out on by not having the milk as a drink?

Thanks for any advice

Sarah xx

I'd say as long as she's getting a balanced diet and you're giving her some form of vitamin d as a top up I wouldn't worry to much. Might be worth trying different cups, different temperatures etc.. But otherwise I wouldn't be too worried about it.

I'm in the opposite situation I have a milk guzzler who prefers that to food right now!

I breastfed my eldest until 13 months, needed to stop for a few different reasons but she refused a bottle and really hated cows milk. I researched it a bit and so long as they're getting the calcium and fat elsewhere in their diet they really don't need milk if they don't want it. From 1-3yrs they need 350mg of calcium and I calculated my daughter was having that in her breakfast alone - porridge and a yeo valley yogurt. She's 2.6 now and growing like a beast! So try not to worry and just follow her lead with it.xx

Haha they do like to keep us on our toes don't they?! Thanks for the advice, she's never been a big milk drinker but shes a good healthy weight so I won't worry too much. As you say food isn't an issue so I should just be thankful for that! x

Thanks goat, that's really helpful and puts my mind at rest a bit more x

I forgot to mention that she was under consultant care until 2 due to being a bit poorly at birth and he also reassured me it was fine to skip milk so long as she was getting the calcium elsewhere.x
