Some of you might find this link useful- It has most hospital maternity wards and midwife units in the UK on it and lets you know what facilities they have and what there caesarian rates etc are-

Mine looks good and we were really impressed when we went for our tour last Sunday :)

Think ours got good ratings in the Sunday Guardian (or one of those types of paper) reviews. Have been fairly impressed with my care so far.

The hospital I have chosen looks good too. Lowest rate of CS in the area and 60% of women knew their midwife. Thats brilliant compared to the 20% that did in the hospital I should be going too :cheer: :cheer:

I'm surprised that out of the 2000 or so women who had their babies at Torbay Hospital, only 500 had epidurals! I thought they were more common than that.

is mine good enough? pelase help me decide, i'm a bit lost in all those figures.

Normal vaginal delivery
(spontaneous onset of labour, no augmentation of labour, no pain control except gas and air): 31.4% (41.8%)

Emergency Caesarean: 13.7% (13.1%)

Elective Caesarean: 7% (8.9%)

Forceps: 3.1% (2.6%)

Ventouse: 6.7% (5.9%)

Induction: 18.2% (17.1%)

Episiotomy: 12.3% (10.3%)

Women who knew their midwife in labour:3% (22%

hope this is right , cos i hate my midwife and really dont want her at the birth :rotfl:

% receiving one to one care during labour: 100% (in basingstoke :) )

yep i can say Torbay Hosp has my 100% vote they were amazing and i wanna go back :cheer:

my mum said when she was in basingstoke with me she never made it into the deliverly room. She was alone as she had sent my dad to try and find her MV :rotfl:

but she said it was a good hospital with her other 3 births and this was over 20years ago!

I don't know where i'll be giving birth. If i'm at my mum's it will be basingstoke or winchester (going to be traveling a lot as its christmas time!!)

Im birthing at Wigan and it is a new unit so not too sure what to make of the reaults :?

The one I've chosen is a new hospital so should be pretty good. Haven't been round it yet. Will ask the midwife when I next see her.

I'm a little peeved...just asked the ante-natal people at my appointment today and they said that no hospitals in the Warwickshire area give tours any more becuase of the infection problems that have been going round the country, so I won't get to see the labour ward before I go in for real

I know someone going to a Warwickshire hospital and she doesn't get a tour either :(

I checked mine out where I went to have my daughter last year, it was a midwife led unit and I was a bit annoyed to see that the section stating how many transfers were made during labour said '0'. What a lie! I was transferred, as was a friend of mine and someone else I know too so did we not count?! I think its true what they say about statistics, the hospital I gave birth at (eventually!) has got a higher than average rating for forceps, ventouse etc but the fact is that this is due to that particular hospital having to take the unsuccessful homebirths and midwife led unit deliveries. Not very fair eh? :shakehead:
