How common are incorrect gender scans?!

Okay, can anyone put me out of my misery?! We just found out at 16+3 that we're having a little girl and are delighted as we have one son already and this will be our last child. However, I nearly fell off the bed when I was told as I was so convinced it would be another boy; and since returning home and googling 'wrong gender scans' I am now even more convinced that they could have got it wrong.

Am I being a pregnant nut job?! I just don't want to get my mind set on it being a girl if there's a real possibility of our gender scan being wrong. In reality, does it happen these days?!

I think it's very rare for it to happen. You should be able to find out the gender at your 20 week scan anyway! So that'll be a confirmation for you. Congratulations! :)

Hi. I found out at 15+6 we were having a little girl...we have two boys already...

I nearly fell off the bed too. Since having that scan and before my 20 week gender scan which I'm just home from I was in denial.

Anyway two other ladies just confirmed it's a girl.

Congratulations on your girl x

Thank you Nat! Did you think it was clear at your earlier scan? I really wasn't convinced at what they were pointing out but the tech seemed very confident. I'm literally counting down the days until my 20 week scan. Thank you for making me feel less crazy and huge congratulations on your baby girl!! Xxx

Emma, congratulations hun! I think its unusual that they get it wrong but double check at 20wk scan. In my last pregnancy I had scan at 16wk and he said boy then it was confirmed at 20wk. I dont know anyone who has been told one thing then it be different at 20wk scan. Xx

It happen d to my cousin (this is probably not what you want to hear), she was told she was having a little girl, sold lots of her sons stuff, 'pinked' up the nursery and along came another little boy! I think this is pretty unusual though and get it confirmed at your 20 week scan to put your mind at rest x

I didn't see my 16 week scan as soon as she said girl I was in an emotional happy state lol. Today she pointed out the babies 3 white lines. I was convinced the lady at 16 weeks was wrong. Oops.

Still in shock but totally believe it now as that's three ladies that have confirmed it 💕 X

I'm so glad it's not just me! I've bought a few blue things now: clothes, bouncy chair and Gro bag. Just praying that they say team blue tomorrow!

Good luck tomorrow JoeyClare! Let us know how it goes! I'm wishing away the next 3 weeks!

Babypickle do you mind me asking how long ago this was? Most of the cases I've seen online haven't been recent? (Or so I'm trying to reassure myself!) Your poor cousin!!

Aww bless you! We didn't find out with my daughter, so finding out this time last Monday is a weird feeling and I've bought boy sleepsuits in the sales already! Though we were lucky as I'm sure if there is a mistake it would be boy to girl not girl to boy! Our sonographer said she was as 100% as she could be and its one of the clearest she's seen! I still have that weird feeling what if she's wrong? I know a few people who've said they know of someone who it happened to. I'm pleased our daughter's nursery is still neutral anyway (they'll be sharing a room!) hopefully they'll say girl at your next scan! X

The sonographer today told me she was 99.9% sure baby is a she today. She said if there was any doubt, she would book me in again for another scan to check again. I'm 16 weeks, but even my scab was so clear. Technology has come on so much that I think they rarely get it wrong

My nephews are 6 and 7 x

I think incorrect sex scans are far less common than mum's who worry they have been told the wrong sex

Didn't find out with first and with second wad told girl at 19w and 20w and 24w and 26w (had to have a few extra scans) and yep she was a girl.

X

Umm it does still happen! I was told girl at 20wk scan. I now have a very lovely 17 month old boy! I would imagine the chance of error is greatly reduced if you have more than one scan saying the same. Next time I'm going team yellow though x

Blimey Kew.

Of course a healthy baby is all that matters but I imagine it was a bit of a shock?
