hey girls,

im starting to think about buying things to put in a bag for birth. I was just wondering if i would be allowed to take a hairdryer or hair straightners into hospital to use incase i had to stay for a few days?

i know this sounds really vain  but was just wondering if anyone else was allowed to use them when they had a hospital stay, so im prepared to be a fuzz ball for a few days.

:D

I don't know if it depends on your hospital, but I know that there are plug sockets in my hospital. I know someone who charged their mobile phone while in there.

no you're not allowed to take anything electrical into hosptials as by law they have to be tested by a qualified electrician before use :)

im sure you won't miss your straighteners for a few days  you'll not have time for yourself with a newborn to care for i can assure you

thanks for your help :D

Im sure your right budge, i wont be bothering about myself with a new baby around. :)

i took my straigtners. i just pulled my curtain round sat on my bed and straightend my hair didnt no i was not able too :?

When I was in hospital with Damien, on the main ward I didn't really have anything (I was on a ward, D was in SCBU). But we were transferred hospitals after a couple of days and I had my own room so I did use my hairdryer and my straighteners, mind you I was in near a week so I was getting fed up not having a hair dryer (you should see my hair dry naturally) .

Alot of wards provide hair dryers though to be honest, and straighteners, I wouldn't bother with them. I think I only used them once but it's too much hassle and with a baby to look after, didn't really have the time.

You should see my hair dry naturally too. I will have to find some way of looking after myself if I do go into hospital. I know I'll have a baby, but honestly you should see my hair half a day after washing it. It has to be straightened.

I was thinking of taking bobbles in and putting it up, but stillI need to feel clean. It might sound vain, but at the end of the day a happy healthy mummy provides a happy healthy baby.

cant agree with you more though tbh, ive got naturally curly hair and a straighteners only style, its layered everywhere and i look like a mop if i havent straightened it so i definitely will be taking mine with me as not wearing a cap for my hospital stay

Don't bother taking a hairdryer in as they should have one.

It's not an issue if you don't have to stay in for long but I was in hospital for 2 weeks as my waters broke at 34 + 2.

I had to get my DH to bring my straighteners in for me because my hair is naturally very wavy and it was very hot weather, talk about a frizz ball.

I asked the midwive about bringing them in and she said so long as it has a moulded plug you'll be OK. Of course the rules are that you're not to bring anything in without it being tested but various midwives turn a blind eye to it and others don't!

I had a newborn but I still found time to straighten my locks :D

budge is right - but i sneaked in electrical equipment anyway and used it when nobody was looking  lol

i took my straigtners lol and we were allowed hair dryers

Hi

At our parents classes we were told what Budge has said so I didn't bother taking a hair dryer or straighteners etc. When I was actually in hospital the girl across from me was using her hairdryer and then her OH bought in her straighteners and then a midwife came and asked if she could borrow them for a girl along the corridor!

So, if you need them I would take them in!

Also, newborns tend to sleep a lot - you WILL have time to use them if you want to!

Yeah I did the same. Took my mobile and charger aswell. Had my fone charging up next to me so I could text people lol

I took my hairdryer in wasnt sure if i was supposed to be using it but my hair looks really really bad if it drys naturally.

Maddie slept so much for the first day and night in hospital I WISHED I'd taken in something like that just to pass the time and alleviate the boredom LOL!!

We were allowed to take in our own stereo for during labour as long as it had a moulded plug, and I can't see how this is different.

I say take them in - if you're not allowed to use them then they'll not hesitate in telling you.
