Hi I'm sure this has been asked before, but when did you guys pack your bag?

Also, how much baby clothes did you take? I'm pretty much sorted on what I need to take for myself, but was going to take the following for baby; let me know what you think i.e. too much/too little:

6x Vests (or body suits I think they are called)
6x Sleepsuits (the all in one type with feet)
2x Pairs of socks
2x Pairs of Scratch Mitts
1x Baby blanket
1x Cotton hat
1x Jacket (don't think I will need pram suit as baby is due in June)
1x Going home outfit (have cute little cotton trousers and t-shirt set from boots)
3x Muslin squares just in case

Cheers xx

i was thinking about this the other day, don't know what to take for me either really.
im rubbish at stuff like this

Hello girlies
im on my third bubba now and i packed my bag early at around 28 weeks as i have had pre eclampsia twice b4, good thing i did as i was in hospital the other week 4 abt 5 nights due 2 liver probs n abdominal pains etc
anyway with both of my babies they have been early n in hospital 4 abt a week due 2 MY blood pressure...typical huh!
i made sure i packed:-

*4 vests
*4 sleepsuits
*2 cute outfits
*a hat
*a blanket or 2
*scratch mits
*bottles and cartons of formula milk (if u plan on breastfeeding but cant 4 wot ever reason then its there as a back up)
*2 muslin cloths
*nappies
*cotton wool/sensitive baby wipes
*nappy sacks
*weather permitting jacket or coat

i think thats it. everybody is different and have different preferences but if u pack wot u think is best without takin in your whole house you have then atleast got it all if u need it. if u need more u can always send your OH to get it.
dont 4get 2 pack things 4 during labour like CDs and snacks and plenty of heavy duty maternity sanitary towels!!!

Hope ive been of some help...its late and im trying to think which is hard at the best of times during pregnancy!! :rotfl:

good luck with your baby bag packing. x x x x sarah x x x x

I have my bag packed too. But i have just realised i have not packed my things ie dressing gown and pads etc. I already have a big bag packed and i feel stupid taking a huge thing in with me....=[
What size bag are you taking in with you and what are you doing about your things?

Hiya ladies

I'm really disorganised and haven't packed a bag yet!

2 great tips are:

get OH or birth partner to pack the labour bag...you SO won't feel like showing him where everything is when you're in labour and when he can't find your lip balm or something it's really annoying! Make him pack it! LOL

Also, I always pack a "spares" bag that stays at home, hopefully you won't be stuck in for days, but if you are, it helps that everything is at home in a bag ready. You don't wanna be having to explain to OH "more nappies are XXXX my clean nightie is XXXXX, vests are XXXXX"

If its all there you can just say "bring the spares bag" :)

I'll be taking about 5 sleepsuits, plus more in spares the bag at home, just in case.

I'd say take more than one hat because babies head can be quite gunky (for want of a better word :D ) and they do need to wear a warm hat because newborns can't regulate their own temperature and they need to keep heat in. Take at least 2 hats so if the first gets mucky you can put a clean one on. You need to put a hat in your delivery suite bag too for immediately after the birth aswell and then putting any extra hat(s) in your labour ward bag.

:D

I adapted my list from other people's lists on the forum. I don't need to take maternity pads, cotton wool, birthing ball etc as they provide everything like that.

I have a 'spare' bag at home like Urchin just in case I need to stay longer...I would dread to think what OH would bring if I didn't.

My list is.....
3 Sleep suits in Newborn and also 0-3
3 Vests in Newborn and also 0-3
2 x Socks
Coming home outfit and outdoor coat type thing
2 Hats
Nappies
Bibs
Muslin Cloths
Towel
Blanket
Nappy Sacks

1 x PJ
1 x Nightie
Bath Towel
Clothes for coming home
Knickers
Nursing Bra
Socks
Slippers
Nursing Pads
Shampoo/Conditioner
Shower Gel
Toothbrush/Paste
Lip Balm
Wet Wipes
Flannels
Deodorant
Hairbrush
Mouthwash
flannel
water spray
nipple cream

Arnica
MATERNITY NOTES!!
Carrier bag for dirty washing
clean t-shirt for OH
ipod
Watch with a second hand to time contractions
Snacks and drinks

Car Seat
Change for phone/car park
Mobile Phone
Camera & Batteries

Thanks for tip about spares bag will def do one of those. And also about more hats. And about OH packing bag (but I think I will need to lay out all the things and he could put them in, as I don't trust that he'll remember everything lol!!!)

longpinkamazing, I was going to pack all of the baby's things in his changing bag and leave that in the car so that OH can go and get it once baby is born.
I will have a separate labour bag for me (with clothes/snacks for OH and minimal things for baby i.e. one sleepsuit/vest etc) and stuff for after labour that we'll take in with us on arrival, that way I don't have to take a suitcase lol!

I think I packed mine around 33 weeks.

I've got a big holdall for me, baby Logan has his changing bag, and I've got my dressing gown in a seperate carrier bag cos it took up too much room in my bag

Mine was packed around 33 weeks too i think.
I keep unpacking it and re packing it then adding a few more things to it!

And I bet when i need it there will be something I have forgoten

started on my bag around 32 wks but only fiinshed it about 36 wks. do u need baby toiletries or do hospital supply them?

marie x

We have to take our own ones, ask youe MW to confirm if you do xx

I've got a very long list! I'm buying the last of my bits for it tomorrow then i will attempt to pack it! Not sure what i'm packing it in yet though!

I'm aiming for a homebirth but i'm packing a hospital bag just in case and i'm also packing a bag with everything i'll need for the homebirth so that OH isn't rushing around unable to find things!

I'm taking nappies, wipes, cotton wool and sudocreme for baby. I think the advice now is to only use plain water when washing them, no baby bath or anything. Shame, I love the smell of Johnssons baby bath!
I was told I shouldn't even use wipes but taking them as I can't imagine cotton wool and water alone would shift the first meconium poo!

Hehe I'm doing the minimal approach. I've got 3 vests and sleepsuits and then one or two of other things. I've not packed a going home outfit either as I prefer to use sleepsuits in the first few months as I find them easier than messing around with clothes and outfits on a newborn. But that's just me :)

Same with my own stuff, its on the lighter side. I have extras left out that hubby can bring with if I need him to but I'm really trying to travel light.

My hospital bag will hopefully not be needed as I am hoping for a homebirth. So I've gone with the minimum and will send out for anything else I need later. I've sorted out all the baby stuff and put it all together in a drawer here at home and will only pack it if I have to go to hospital. Otherwise it can stay in the drawer and be used here :)

Oh help!!!

So I have a bag with my stuff.... and a bag for baby's stuff....

now I need a labour bag too????????????????????

Exactly the same for me except it's a small suitcase rather than a holdall.

The advice is to have seperate bags for labour, and post delivery but I've just chucked it all in one bag. I didn't think I had enough stuff to justify two different bags.
Just do what's easiest for you, some people like to keep it seperate so it's easier to find stuff.

I have packed a bag for me which is a small suitcase size bag. And i have packed a bag for baby, which is a changing bag. So i have only packed two bags.
So i think it depends on how you want to do it really. It may be easier to find stuff if you have seperate bags but
I had a letter of guidance from the hospital saying that once i am in the hospital i have to empty my bags anyway into the cupboards provided and bags must me took away, so OH will have to pop them in the car while i am in hospital.
